Split a 22oz bottle of the 2012 Gold Wax vintage three ways. My favorite of the night. This one was so mellow, so balanced - nice bourbon notes - vanilla, chocolate, some sweet toffee characters and a touch of really dark fruits. Plenty of warming, touch barrel. This one was probably the best of the bunch - certainly the one I enjoyed the most while consuming it. Nice balance between the barrel aging and with whatever the base beer is.

Bottle. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate malt and bourbon wood aroma. Medium to full body and smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy complex bourbon sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This beer exceeded my expectations and could be a standout with some age.

UPDATED: MAY 7, 2013 Bottle. Dark brown almost black, with a tan head. Heavy roast, chocolate sweetness, corn whiskey, mild bourbon, wood, and light smoke. I am even getting a bit of sweet corn aroma, or is it all in my head? Pretty good, but not my favorite eclipse variety.

Bomber to snifter (2012 vintage; shared with jmborggren and the Mrs.) Looks good; a dull, dark brownish-black with beige lacing. Smells good too; sweet, malty, and boozy with notes of vanilla and nice balance. Tastes like it smells, but less sweet malt and bit more corn presence. Smooth on the palate. Good, but not my favorite of the series.

Bottle from John’s Marketplace. Pours a deep pure black color with a small white head. A huge nose of distinct American Whiskey nose, you can smell the corn in this. The flavor is massive barrel and some heat, deep sweet whiskey, some roast, dark fruit, more woody barrels. Just excellent. Decadent. I could drink a lot!

Poured from a 22ounce bottle, thanks to Doug. I can tastes the corn from the barrels. Fruity alcohol, thin, chocolaty, roasted malts, dry. Tasty, but I still enjoy the base beer more. Thanks Doug.
