4/11/13. Bomber thanks to cheesemoose. Side by side with 4 other Eclipses. Krunk. Rich black pour with a small tan head. Bold, hot, boozey whiskey aroma with some roasted malt in there. Rich BA flavor, lots of that corn whiskey, lingers like a shot of whiskey, lingering fudge, coconut, and roasted malt. Nice, but boozey.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Murky dark brown ale with a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Decent retention. The nose is very reminiscent of the base beer with only a hint of bourbon. Medium to full-bodied and silky with soft carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty, roasty and a touch smoky. Warming, dark chocolate finish. Not a lot of sourmash whiskey or bourbon here. This is what the base beer wishes it was. Bottle courtesy of ctipping!

Bottle courtesy of Colin. Another middle of the road treatment with big corn whiskey notes. Still, I dig those those caramel malt, vanilla, oak, and dark roasted malts. Good body and mouthfeel. A very nice imperial stout...

Bottle @ Oakquinox 2013. Black pour with a tan head. Big roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Some whiskey, a bit of oak, vanilla, and a touch of smoke. The flavor is heavy on the roasted malt and coffee. Dark chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, and light smoke. Mild alcohol heat, oak, and a bit of bitterness.

Skyview Tasting, 2/23/13. The bourbon is well blended in this beer, not overpowering. the aroma also has some coconut. Sweet malt and moderately roasted grain.

Nice whiskey aroma here. Some booze. Not quite tasting the corn. At the end of the day most of these are pretty similar. Some booze also, thick and syrupy. Unless they lower the prices, I’ve probably had my lifetime fix of this imperial stout no matter what kind of barrel they get a hold of to put it in. Thanks to Sammy and Liam.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2013 Shared by myself and one of my bestest friends in tout de monde, chez Paul. The beer looks like an Eclipse stout. If you’re not sure what I’m ranting about, consult any one of my other completely useless reviews of Eclipse beers. Mellow corn? Are you for serious right now? Don’t be trifling B. I’m not sure what Sasquatch or pilgrims have to do with this beer, but I gotta say I’m not exactly feeling like this beer resembles anything Midwesterners slather in margarine and feast upon as if they were ground rodents. Smooth and runny feel, like a sexy silky brunette goddess in clear heels perched in a moonlit motel window as she realizes she has to take a huge, runny dump. I can’t wait to drink the next Eclipse beer, which will almost certainly be crazy similar to this one. Hellz yeah.

2012 vintage shared with some friends. Pours a solid black with a decent sized tan head that slowly dissipates. The aroma is roasty, chocolate, caramel, spices and coffee wrapped in a subtle but evident barrel treatment of vanilla, lots of ethanol and sweet bourbon whiskey. The flavor starts off sweet and malty with lots of roast, brown sugar, and chocolate. The barrel notes rush in with vanilla, whiskey, light wood to remind us that this is no ordinary stout. Lingering roasty alcohol lasts long after every sip. Thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet almost syrupy creamy mouthfeel. Mellow corn whiskey huh? We finished our tasting with this one. The corn whiskey has a huge presence in this beer, I would have preferred it a bit softer or mellowed.
