4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to Beer Savant for sharing 2012 vintage bottle during his 50th birthday bash. Brown-black pour with a medium beige head that recedes quickly. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, booze and dark fruit. Full-bodied and smooth with flavors of roast malt, spicy whiskey and vanilla. The finish is slightly syrupy with a boozy vanilla aftertaste. Good treatment all around.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
3 ounce sample from a bottle at The Davis Beer Shoppe. The aroma has a good deal of sweet chocolate character, which is backed up by some roastiness. Not much else happening here, and I donít detect any barrel in the nose. Slightly transparent black body with a small, tan head present. Starts sweet with some chocolate sweetness before this becomes lightly vinous and astringent in the middle. Warming finish, with mild ethanol. I really donít detect much impact from the barrel. Iíd be pissed if I paid $30 for this. Iím smarter than that, though.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz waxed bomber pours with a dark mahogany body supporting a mocha head of foam. The aroma offers up boozy heat flowing into sweet bourbon and light wood notes as well as some dark roasted malts and chocolate. The taste is smooth and fairly creamy delivering up dark roasted malts, some molasses, smooth sweet bourbon and the booziness. This is a dandy smooth rich sipper of a beer where the barrel aging didnít crush the wonderful base beer.

Bottle shared by b3shine. Pours dark brown/black in color with a small tan head. Nose is chocolate, a different take on bourbon, roast, oak, vanilla and dark fruits. The nose was a touch boozy. Flavors were the same. I have enjoyed all of the treatments, but this was just a bit below some of the others for me.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a greyish head of foam. Aroma has a boozy vegetal note. Very sweet. Caramel notes. Burnt, creme brulee notes. Medium to thick mouthfeel. Tastes better than it smells.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hot, boozy, and undercarbed. Negatives taking away from some pleasant chocolate and roasted malt notes. One of the weaker Imperial Eclipses.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from Nugget Market in Davis, CA. Pours very dark brown with a slight foamy dark tan head. Aroma of rich dark malt, bourbon and alcohol. Med + body. Flavor is whisky - something a bit different from bourbon somehow- bourbon, chocolate, dark fruit and I could even say anise. The alcohol nose persists, and so does the "whiskey" aspect. Oak/wood is very low key. For some reason this is a much easier drinker than most of the Eclipse versions. Way too easy.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle, shared by b3shine. 2012 vintage with white wax, "BR/1" written on the front. Black color. Light brown / red on the edges. Good thin brown head. Spread of lace. Looks good. Big lightly chewy texture and body. Light carbonation. Light stickiness. Good chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla aromas, light wood. Some good earthy hop. Sweeter taste, light bitter. Little alcoholic heat and sweet bite, just a light whiskey burn in the finish. Nice tasty complex barrel-aged imperial stout, despite being a bit hot
