Bottle. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate malt and bourbon wood aroma. Medium to full body and smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy complex bourbon sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This beer exceeded my expectations and could be a standout with some age.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Murky dark brown ale with a small, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Decent retention. The nose is very reminiscent of the base beer with only a hint of bourbon. Medium to full-bodied and silky with soft carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty, roasty and a touch smoky. Warming, dark chocolate finish. Not a lot of sourmash whiskey or bourbon here. This is what the base beer wishes it was. Bottle courtesy of ctipping!

22oz bottle. Gold Wax. Poured a dark brown, almost black, color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of chocolate, wood, earthy, roast, and some whiskey. Tastes of caramel, whiskey (more than the aroma), caramel, wood, and vanilla. Alcohol content well hidden.

Bottle. Pours with a not quite pitch black body with a lasting small tan head. Aromas are of roast, chocolate, vanilla, light sweet whiskey, leathery, a touch of maple. Flavors are roasty and a bit bitter, light caramelization, slight oak tannin, a bit of maple. Good mouthfeel, viscous with nicely balanced tannin, warmth, and smooth carbonation. Not my favorite Eclipse variant, but not surprising consider the barrel that this was aged in.

Nearly black pour with a brown head. Roasty aroma, very light barrels. Some charred oak, interesting whiskey aroma. Flavor reminds me much more of the base beer than a rich fudge bomb with the normal vanilla, toffee and coconut flavors you get. Lots of roast, earthy bitterness, some dark chocolate.

Bottle @ Oakquinox 2013. Black pour with a tan head. Big roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Some whiskey, a bit of oak, vanilla, and a touch of smoke. The flavor is heavy on the roasted malt and coffee. Dark chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, and light smoke. Mild alcohol heat, oak, and a bit of bitterness.

Bottle @ Matt’s house, courtesy of arminjewell. Thanks! Pours a thick black appearance with a dark brown head. Boozy, rich whiskey, vanilla, ethanol aroma. Whiskey, chocolate, caramel, boozy, veggie herbal flavor. This doesn’t live up to the rest of the series, dammit.

Bottle. Smokey whiskey, coffee, and chocolate aroma with a hint of vanilla. Sweet citrus, grape, chocolate, roasted grain, and whiskey taste with a caramel and oak finish. Chewy creamy palate.
