4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Hopped_Silly (236) - California, USA - FEB 14, 2013
Wonderful texture was the first thing that grabbed my attention. Solid bourbon barrel influence of vanilla and chocolate. Deep, rich and long on the palate, without being thick or heavy. Another pleasure to enjoy by FiftyFifty.

Aroma is boozy, sweet whiskey. Pours dark brown with no head. Very inviting. Tastes very sweet and strong alcohol flavor but not bad. Finishes extremely smooth.

We did a taste testing of five different 50-50 2012 stouts. For the base stout, it’s quite frankly superb. Pours black, with a beautiful yellowish-white froth. Some coffee notes, little bitterness, but the predominating flavor is roasted malt.
Of the five we tasted, the mellow corn was tied as my favorite. The mellow corn, well, mellowed out the stout. Although high in ABV, this particular barrel also made the stout session-like -- incredibly smooth and drinkable!

Split a 22oz bottle of the 2012 Gold Wax vintage three ways. My favorite of the night. This one was so mellow, so balanced - nice bourbon notes - vanilla, chocolate, some sweet toffee characters and a touch of really dark fruits. Plenty of warming, touch barrel. This one was probably the best of the bunch - certainly the one I enjoyed the most while consuming it. Nice balance between the barrel aging and with whatever the base beer is.

Bottle. Smokey whiskey, coffee, and chocolate aroma with a hint of vanilla. Sweet citrus, grape, chocolate, roasted grain, and whiskey taste with a caramel and oak finish. Chewy creamy palate.

Bottle from John’s Marketplace. Pours a deep pure black color with a small white head. A huge nose of distinct American Whiskey nose, you can smell the corn in this. The flavor is massive barrel and some heat, deep sweet whiskey, some roast, dark fruit, more woody barrels. Just excellent. Decadent. I could drink a lot!

Nearly black pour with a brown head. Roasty aroma, very light barrels. Some charred oak, interesting whiskey aroma. Flavor reminds me much more of the base beer than a rich fudge bomb with the normal vanilla, toffee and coconut flavors you get. Lots of roast, earthy bitterness, some dark chocolate.

Le baril de Mellow corn enveloppe la stout, tellement qu’elle semble devenir inoffensive. Superbe présence en bouche et légère amertume au final. La plus endormie des 4 au niveau des saveurs mais une excellente stout à la buvabilité massive tout de même.
