Wonderful texture was the first thing that grabbed my attention. Solid bourbon barrel influence of vanilla and chocolate. Deep, rich and long on the palate, without being thick or heavy. Another pleasure to enjoy by FiftyFifty. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Aroma is boozy, sweet whiskey. Pours dark brown with no head. Very inviting. Tastes very sweet and strong alcohol flavor but not bad. Finishes extremely smooth. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

We did a taste testing of five different 50-50 2012 stouts. For the base stout, it’s quite frankly superb. Pours black, with a beautiful yellowish-white froth. Some coffee notes, little bitterness, but the predominating flavor is roasted malt. Of the five we tasted, the mellow corn was tied as my favorite. The mellow corn, well, mellowed out the stout. Although high in ABV, this particular barrel also made the stout session-like -- incredibly smooth and drinkable!

A - Dark black with a touch of brown and a finger of frothy khaki-chocolate head. Fades normal. S - Chocolate and dark caramel malts, molasses, Whiskey, vanilla, oak, corn, black licorice, dark cocoa, coffee, booze. T - Sweet chocolate and caramel malts, Whiskey, vanilla, oak, corn, molasses, coffee, black licorice, bitter dark cocoa, touch of dark fruit, and some booze. M - Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth and a bit syrupy with a warming, sweet finsh. D - Great barrel aged stout. The Whiskey is present but also fairly mellow.

Split a 22oz bottle of the 2012 Gold Wax vintage three ways. My favorite of the night. This one was so mellow, so balanced - nice bourbon notes - vanilla, chocolate, some sweet toffee characters and a touch of really dark fruits. Plenty of warming, touch barrel. This one was probably the best of the bunch - certainly the one I enjoyed the most while consuming it. Nice balance between the barrel aging and with whatever the base beer is.

Poured this at a good temperature with an average sized light brown, foamy head that soon settled to a splotchy cover and ring with a bit of lace. Color is an opaque black brown. Aroma is molasses, malt, roast, vanilla and on the mild side. Flavor’s like nose, sweet is dominant, backed with good carbonic tang and just right bitter, well balanced. Honey is in the background along with oak. Body/carbonation are perfect. Finish is just a tad warming, just like flavor, and tapers moderately. Easy drinking. Very good.

Bottles from Capone’s, Blue Dog Lansdale, and Smith’s. Pours oily jet black with minimal head. Nose is bourbon, oak, molasses. Tastes thick on the palate, with flavors of bourbon, molasses, oak, mild prune and fine tobacco.

Bomber bottle vintage 2012. Near black with tan head. Aroma is faint and soft, dominated by bourbon and raisins. Taste is soft, very well balanced, bourbon, plums and faint apple notes. One of my favourite Eclipses!

Smells like a super roasty, chocolatey stout. But then it tastes better - for a 9%, I’d expect some heat from liquor but this covers it really well. You can still taste the flavor of whiskey (which is awesome, obviously). It’s aged nicely and I’d definitely drink it again.
