Bottle share taster. Deep brown with ruby edges. Aroma of raisin, chocolate, bourbon. Such delicious bourbon. Taste is very bitter. Quite dry.

Clear dark brown soy sauce like beer, no head. Aroma: lots of caramel, vanilla, alcohol, bit sugary, honey, dried fruits, hint of mocha. MF: soft to no carbon, full body. Taste: sweet start, sugary, lots of caramel, dark chocolate, vanilla, bit of mocha, little sour. Aftertaste: dried fruits, lots of caramel, sugary, vanilla, crème brûlée, nice bitter touch, little dry, alcohol.

22, capped and waxed. Thanks, J! Pours a nearly-opaque black with dark amber edges in the light. Loose, dense, creamy tan head that falls fairly quickly away. Big earthy roasty nose, some chocolate, some wood, lots of toasty malts. Thick sticky body. Earth, peanuts, coffee, baking chocolate, toast, and oak on the mid palate. Long earthy finish.

Klugs out a motor oil color with a short mocha colored head. Vanilla, coconut, and charred barrel bourbon nose. Viscous, creamy mouthfeel. Chocolate flavor immediately. Some coconut and vanilla. Plenty of bourbon and alcohol flavor emerges midway and continues to the end.

Bottle sample courtesy of Bobochamp. Showing 9.5%, 2012 BR3 with honey. Couleur noir foncée, col moka fin laissant un filament doré au verre. Arôme est malté caramel, toffee, chocolaté on retrouve un peu le côté épais du miel. Le bouquet de barrique reste présent mais pas forcément trop distinct. Palais est épais paraissant plus doux que la bouteille à cire noire avec ce côté caramélisé ressortant plus. Palais ets réchauffant, sucre brun caramélisé, mélasse et des notes épicées boisées de chêne. Palais râpeux et terreux avec une certaine rondeur de bourbon qui apporte un léger ajout vanillé. Le tout comporte une certaine douceur mielleuse qui si elle n’était pas indiqué sur la bouteille n’aurait probablement pas été détectée.

65cl, at 9.5%Vol, Vintage 2012 (with blue wax), exclusive American brew, with honey, thx to Secret Santa!, very complex Stout, roasted/woody and slightly alcoholic/spicy, yet not too heavy, balanced, hazy, nearly no head, very good Winter brew, yet very expensive!

22 oz. bottle served in a CBS snifter. 2012 batch, blue wax. A: Pours a dark black color with a khaki colored head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin film that leaves some sticky sheets of lace down the glass. S: Light bourbon, some oak and a nice roasted malt profile. Dark fruit with some caramel notes as well. T: Oaky with a dark fruit. Light bourbon, a little cocoa and some dark chocolate. Dry, roasted malts on the finish with some nougat flavors as well. As it warms the bourbon comes back out a little more and has a little harshness to it. This dies down once it reaches about 60-65 degrees. M: Medium bodied with a medium low carbonation level. Roasty finish. O: Nice overall. Nice mouthfeel, Not too thin like some other eclipse variants with just the right amount of carbonation. The Old Fitz is slightly harsh as it warms, but that goes away after a while. Serving type: bottle 08-08-2013

Bottle. Pours brownish-black with mocha head. Smell is sweet chocolate, booze, oak and roasted coffee beans. Some vanilla but not as much as the Elijah Craig offering. Taste is vanilla, booze, chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Big boozy full body light carbonated stout. Overall a good beer but there are better 50/50 offerings.

Bottle shared at Dan’s Birthday Tasting (Lyons, IL). Pours a deep dark blackish hue, well hazed and dark, with a frothy tannish head. Sticks around as a filmy layer, laces ok. Sticks around well. Aromas are a bit sticky, cocoa and vanilla, sweeter caramel, toffee, gentle coffee. Spirit element is a bit deadened, mellow oak and spirit, some vanilla. Sweeter sticky base sicks around. Initial is a bit sweeter, cocoa and coffee, black malt and toast. Some gentle spirit, sticky sweeter elements show some life. Vanilla, oak, gentle spirit. Some toffee, toast. Middle is a bit more vanilla, spirit and warmth. This particular variant holds up it’s base better than other Eclipse series. A bit sticky, sweet, fudgey. Backend is a bit toasty, cocoa driven, mellow spirit and oak. Some dryness, decent body. Solid, a bit mellow on the barrel end. Nice.

My Bottom Line:
Vanilla, dark chocolate and subtle fruitiness intertwine in this tight, cohesive, luxurious Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the perfect darkness.
-The barrel-aging job is intelligent; adds a touch of character without taking away from the base brew.
-Alcohol heat brushes the finish.
-The mouthfeel is slick; not heavy even though it is corpulent.
