Bottle from City Beer. Pours black with a modest tan head and a chocolate aroma. There is a heavy sweet treacle flavor with a dry finish. A nice start for the barrel-aged versions.

On tap at FiftyFifty. Aroma and flavor of medium chocolate, light roast coffee, and toasted malts. Palate really didn't impress me as much, considering this is the base beer for the Eclipse bottlings. Pretty good imperial stout.

Dark brown, slightly translucent on the edges. Thin head with a little lacing. Slightly thinner body than I expected. Light roast coffee, dark roast malts, and dark chocolate on the nose. Taste follows, but with some vanilla and chocolate becoming more pronounced with a nice hop finish and lingering cocoa. Nice to try this side by side with some BA Eclipse. This is actually quite a complex stout, more so than the Eclipse, I’d argue.

On tap at Hops and Pie poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, dark fruit, light vanilla and light roastiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark chocolate, vanilla, roastiness and dark fruit with a smooth lingering chocolate finish.

Growler shared by yourefragile. Thanks Michael!
The beer is near black with a thin, mocha colored head. The aroma brings heavy roast, bready malts. The flavor is very dark, roasty, some bitterness, most notably in the finish. Chocolate and roast, with some brown bread. Smooth on the palate, with fairly low carbonation, which is likely attributed to the growler format. Overall, this was solid, though I prefer the barrel-aged FiftyFifty beers to this one. I’d have this again, especially if I had the opportunity to sample it on draft.

Thanks, Moll. Served in a FiftyFifty snifter. Pours near black with a short head. Nose is quite roasty with some chocolate and booze. Flavor is similar. Lacking in depth and not much compared to the barrel aged versions.

Poured up on tap at Falling rock. It has a pure clear deep amber body that supports a micro thin tan head of foam. The rich aroma offers up brown sugar covered plums and prunes and moves into smooth sweet candy like bourbon notes. The taste has smooth sweet rich bourbon notes mixing with molasses and ripe plums and a light sense of dark roasted maltiness. This is rich and smooth and delicious, a great sipper.
