Draft at GABF. The base beer for Imperial Eclipse. Pours pitch black with a tan head. Nose is great, very chocolate forward and roasty. Milk chocolate, faint hops and a hint of dark fruit. On taste, the roast keeps this very balanced. Good level of bitterness and lots more of that great chocolate going on. Big and rich, full bodied with a medium dry finish. Fantastic Imperial Stout for sure.

A: The beer pours almost black with a very small tan head to go with it.
S: First thing I pick up on is a distinct sourness. Acrid, roasted malts and coffee follow, as well as a mild char. There is a light chocolate aroma with a slight molasses and toffee sweetness.
T: A very sight sweetness to start, but the sourness and acridity of the roast follow shortly behind. There is a mild cocoa note as well as some coffee. A touch of molasses and licorice.
M: The body is sort of light and watery for an imperial stout. Medium carbonation, however.
O: Really disappointing as I was looking forward to trying this, given my enjoyment of the barrel aged versions.

[Tap] Pours an opaque black color with a light brown head. Chocolate, espresso, chalky hazelnut and some alcohol in the nose. Molasses, brown sugar, vanilla, dark fruits and lots of dark chocolate in the flavor. Complex and rich in flavor. Quite drinkable despite the ABV in this. I actually enjoyed this about as much as the Eclipse.

On tap. Pours a dark brown with little head. Tastes like a pretty traditional imperial stout initially but then has a lingering mocha chocolate aftertaste that is very good. Very smooth. Good overall.
