Davy Brown Ale is rich without being overpowering and never bitter. A nice head and creamyl flavors. Fantastic in the cooler weather with great food. California’s Cold Springs Tavern serves Davy Brown on tap. With a roaring fire and a hearty meal, the atmosphere is ideal for this flavorful beer. A brew as important to a stew as gravy to a turkey on Thanksgiving.

One of the better browns that I have had. A nutty brown aroma with a distinct American brown character. Does not taste as dark as it looks. White head, SRM is dark. Has great hop balance. I had it first from a 22oz bottle at a nearby restaurant and then on tap at their taproom after our group found out about the brewery. Great find.

On tap at the brewery. Pours with a hazed deep brown body with a very small off-white head. Aromas are malty, brown sugar, nutty, sweet and slightly estery. Flavors are sweet, malty, bready, maple and a bit nutty. Decently bitter. Medium bubbles, medium-dry. A good brown.

Draught at the brewery. It’s truly refreshing to see a good example of an American brown that is properly roasty and hoppy. Such things apparently do exist outside of homebrew circles. Niuce chocolate malt flavor and aroma balanced by ample woody and citrusy hops. Dry and bitter but with lots of malt carrying through. One of the better browns I’ve had in awhile. Has someone been drinking Janet’s Brown lately?
