Davy Brown Ale is a deep, caramel beer that combines wonderful roasted malt, light chocolate flavor, and a blend of Northern and Cascade hops. Named after a Santa Ynez Valley pioneer, this beer is a true discovery-both rustic and refined.

Type: 22-oz. bottle Glass: Pint glass From: BevMo in Goleta, Calif. Price: $5.99 Misc.: Had on Dec. 24, 2012 Nutty brown color with 1-2 fingers of tan head. Average lacing on the sides, wet and foamy. Better retention. Smelled chocolate, Cascade hops, caramel, toffee and lots of bitterness. Tasted dark chocolate, regular chocolate, toffee and caramel, backed my Cascade hops. Medium body. Creamy texture. Above average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. A pretty good debut (for me) by Figueroa. I love the brown ale and hoppy mixes. Try it.

A light brown pour with a khaki head. Somewhat nutty, a nice toast character, some bread, and toffee. Light cocoa, a very light coffee note, and a hint of coffee. Nice nutty flavor, a good sweetness of toffee, bread, and toast. A mild fruitiness, some cocoa, roasted malt, and coffee.

Deep chestnut and mahogany pour with a small eggshell head that left very little in terms of lacing. Aroma is muted. Roasted malt, nuttiness, and a hint of caramel. Flavor is so much better than its nose. Cocoa, light coffee notes, almond and cashew, char, and vanilla. Moderate mouthfeel and mild alcohol...easy drinkin’. Solid.

This is pretty good. A creamy brown ale with a bit of hops to the body. Light finish. A solid introduction for me to these guys.

The beer poured a very light brown with red hues on the sides of the glass and 1/2 finger of a khaki colored head. The aroma was slightly muted and consisted of toasted malt. Davy Brown is true to the style and the flavors were of toasted malt, nuttiness and was very smooth.

Phenomenally surprising brown ale (!) full of body, depth and taste. Malt and caramel and a really husky, robust backbone make for something a lot more special than most brown ales I’ve come across. Beautiful label, too.

Bomber. Darker brown pour with a froth of tan foam. Aroma is even, dry roasted malt, nuts, and minimal sweet malt into the finish. Taste is semi-heavy roasted malt with a strong nut flavor, slight coffee-type roast, and a nice hop bitterness into the finish. Mouthfeel is even and light. Nice brown ale and one of the better beers I’ve had from this brewery.

Pours a reddish brown. Aroma is minimal but the taste is really strong. Big nutty taste with some grain notes on the background. Really nice.
