Phenomenally surprising brown ale (!) full of body, depth and taste. Malt and caramel and a really husky, robust backbone make for something a lot more special than most brown ales I’ve come across. Beautiful label, too.

Bomber from Sandy’s in SLO. Nose is chestnut, roast, and a little caramel. Clear rusty brown with a small beige head. Flavor is lightly bitter with some contrasting sweetness and nuttiness.

Keg at the Big Sur Taphouse on PCH1, 30/04/14. Chestnut brown with a moderate light beige covering that retains well. Nose is toffee, dark fruits, nutty tang, brown sugar. Taste comprises toffee, light vanilla, touch of cocoa, subtle hop presence, biscuit crumble. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Ok middle of the rod brown, a touch better than most to be fair!

On tap at Cato’s Alehouse. It pours a deep reddish brown color with a khaki head. The aroma is nice and toasty with some chocolate and nuts. The flavor is nutty and toasted with strong earthy, menthol and spicy hop character. Medium/strong bitter finish. The malts work really well with the hop varieties and usage. This is a West Coast Brown Ale I can get behind. Really tasty.

Pours a clear dark brown with nice soapy tan head. Aroma is milk chocolate and slight dark fruits and roasted malts. Taste follows the Aroma well with a medium mouth feel. Nice brown ale. Well made.

Bottle. Nice mahogany beer with a dark tan head. Nutty and maly aroma with light toffee. Nutty malt flavor with light caramel and light chocolate. Medium bodied. Caramel and nuttiness lingers with light cocoa.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2014 The bouquet of this scrumptious brown ale delivers on all fronts. Very Nutella with elements of roasted nuts and cocoa powder. Chocolate and toast on the palate, but crisp and exciting, not dense or weighty. Great stuff! ---- http://instagram.com/pintofbitter
