Hoppy Poppy IPA is identified by its intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. The brilliant appearance and dry texture of this IPA is reminiscent of a fine Santa Ynez Valley chardonnay and is the Master Brewer’s favorite vintage.

Tap at The James Joyce in Santa Barbara. Pint glass. Copper or golden orange. Nice sweet hop aroma with some hops playing into the equation. Taste is a good hoppy and pine with a subtle sweetness that feels well balanced. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Resin at the finish. A good local option.

Pour on tap at the brewery, clear yellow-orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grass, bread, and cereal into nice orange, grapefruit, slight piney notes into a hint of grain. Taste is a mix of grain, biscuit, bread into nice orange, pine and slight resin, touch of yeast finishing slightly bitter, dry. They do their hoppy brews well.

Bottle sample at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks beerandbeyond. Clear golden with a white head. Nice hoppy aroma with citrus and a bit of tropical fruits. Citric hops flavor with light maltiness and strong bitterness. Medium-bodied. Nice.

Tap at Taffy’s pizza in Santa Barbara

Light gold pour, modest head. Pineapple and citrus nose. Pepper and citrus flavors, amply hopped but not overly aggressive. Quite nice.

Fad: Taster på bryggeriet. Orange klar øl med fint skumhoved. Duften er lidt subdued uden den store humle som man ellers kunne forvente frisk fra bryggeriet. Smagen er igen kedelig og ensidig men bestemt drikbar.

Fairly straightforward single IPA. Nice hop presence, mild pineapple fruit, and a good bitter finish.

No problems with this beer (at all) but I think it struggles to differentiate from the sea of Cali modern IPA. Powerful style with resin hops and good weight from the malts. Thankfully drier than expected.

Keg at Big Sur Taphouse, 30/04/14. Clear golden amber with a moderate off white covering that retains well. Nose is orange, light pine, toasted malt, lemon rind, floral notes. Taste comprises orange squash, light grapefruit, straw, pretty muted all round. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with light hop bitterness. So so IPA, went down well on a roof terrace on a 27 degrees + scorcher of a day but ultimately lacked all my musts for an IPA - hops, bitterness and citricana presence.

Bottle. A yellow golden color with a white head. An earth malty hop aroma with with a nicely smooth balanced flavor with a touch of sweetness at the finish.
