3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Tycho52 (63) - California, USA - MAY 18, 2013
Poured from a bomber to a crystal clear orange with a nice white head. Trace lingering. Aroma of the "C" hops, and the citrus leads the aroma. Fruit and grass taste, with a definite tone of sweetness. I don’t know what poppy seeds should taste like, but I don’t taste ’em. Guess with the addition of poppy seeds, I shouldn’t take a blood test...a nice body and very pleasant finish. No alcohol harshness. "Hoppy" is in the name, but it’s not the first thing I think of when I drink this. Could be from living in and drinking so many San Diego IPAs.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jgb9348 (3964) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - APR 24, 2013
Clear deep copper coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall tan head - very nice looking. Aroma of piney, pineapple and slightly resinous hops with a bit of a malt note and the faintest hint of flowers, but no poppy notes at all in the nose. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal notes with a little deep bitterness, perhaps from poppy seeds, with a little hop flavour of pine and earth with a hit of alcohol and malt at the end. Aftertaste nice, but mild with only some grassy hops coming through and little else. Overall, a decent IPA with some deeper, more bitter notes, perhaps from the poppy, but more of a herbal and grassy bite. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Texas Liqour in Carlsbad, California on 19-March-2013 for US$6.99 sampled at home in Washington on 24-April-2013 a day before heading back out West.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 DocJitsu (305) - California, USA - MAR 30, 2013
Pours a beautiful clear tangerine copper with an antique white two-finger head. Head retention doesn’t linger. Foam laces the glass as the beer is being drunk. There is a ripe fruit and pine nose. Candied fruit and pine are prevalent at the top. The beer finishes floral hoppy, but with a pleasant, mild, almost sweet bitterness, if you will. Wonderful beer. One of the best IPAs I’ve ever had the pleasure to drink. What’s more, I only live a half hour from the brewery/brew pub.

22 oz bomber from whole foods santa barbara. this beer was everywhere on tap during my week in santa barbara, which makes sense because the brewery is in a nearby town, in the santa ynez valley. i would give this beer’s name a "5" but unfortunately names are not on the rating system. perhaps they should be added? there is so much competition by good ipa’s in california that it is easy to give this beer a "good but not great" rating, which is what i give it. that is not to say that this is not a nice hoppy citrusy ale, because it is. a very "drinkable" ipa. very dry, as others have noted.
