Hoppy Poppy IPA is identified by its intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. The brilliant appearance and dry texture of this IPA is reminiscent of a fine Santa Ynez Valley chardonnay and is the Master Brewer’s favorite vintage.

22 oz bomber from whole foods santa barbara. this beer was everywhere on tap during my week in santa barbara, which makes sense because the brewery is in a nearby town, in the santa ynez valley. i would give this beer’s name a "5" but unfortunately names are not on the rating system. perhaps they should be added? there is so much competition by good ipa’s in california that it is easy to give this beer a "good but not great" rating, which is what i give it. that is not to say that this is not a nice hoppy citrusy ale, because it is. a very "drinkable" ipa. very dry, as others have noted.

Tap at Big Sky restaurant in San Luis. Fat fruity nose. Thin copper color. Tangy, with citrus. A big fruity jum in mid palate, peach, some caramel, and moderate bitter track. Pleasant stuff.

12 oz bottle at Shutters on the Beach. Orange appearance with a frothy white head. Notes of toasted grain, grass, citrus fruit and pine in the nose. Similar flavor, moderately bitter with a light dry finish. Solid IPA overall.

In the glass it has an amber color with a small head. The aroma has citrus and pine needles. The taste has more citrus with some bitterness up front. There is a resin taste on the finish.

Poured from the bottle into a shaker glass. Golden color with a cream colored head and nice lacing. Aroma is sweet and bready with some floral hops. It could be my mind playing tricks on me since I know they're in there, but I swear I'm picking up the poppy seeds in the aroma too. There is a lot of malt notes in the flavor with breadiness and sweetness that seems like toffee, but may be some influence from the poppy seeds. Floral hops come in towards the finish. A little unbalanced towards the sweet malty side for my taste. Light / medium bodied and there seems to be some diacetyl present. Not very impressed.

22oz bottle from BevMo Pasadena. Hazy Amber, good head. Citrus fruit grain hop aroma. Resin & mandarin orange flavour. Flowery resin hop aftertaste. A bit unbalanced.

Toronto Cask Days 2015. Man this is damn fresh beer. Dripping with mosiac hops. Candy, fruit salad, squeezed citrus, berries. Low bitterness. Sad I probably won’t ever see this beer again.

Draft. Pours orange with a white head. Citric hoppy base, with mild malty sweetness, and mild-moderate bitterness. Solid.

Good ol’ hoppy west coast IPA. Rather mellow and easy to drink but still has a nice bitter bite at the end that doesn’t linger.

Clear golden copper pour with a small semi frothy head. Almost no nose at all. Just a small hint of sweet grapefruit and sweet white wine. Taste is very mild, nice mouthfeel but not much hop in the taste. Not enough to call it hoppy poppy.. And this was bought in Santa Barbara so one would assume this was would be somewhat fresh. Weak finish. Not at bad beer but had higher hopes.
