COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hoppy Poppy IPA is identified by its intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. The brilliant appearance and dry texture of this IPA is reminiscent of a fine Santa Ynez Valley chardonnay and is the Master Brewer’s favorite vintage.

22 oz bomber from whole foods santa barbara. this beer was everywhere on tap during my week in santa barbara, which makes sense because the brewery is in a nearby town, in the santa ynez valley. i would give this beer’s name a "5" but unfortunately names are not on the rating system. perhaps they should be added? there is so much competition by good ipa’s in california that it is easy to give this beer a "good but not great" rating, which is what i give it. that is not to say that this is not a nice hoppy citrusy ale, because it is. a very "drinkable" ipa. very dry, as others have noted.

12 oz. bottle. It pours a nice clear golden color with a white head. The aroma is floral and piney with some background citrus and caramel malt. The flavor is very floral hoppy with some grapefruit and a good dose of caramel malt. A little too much for my tastes, but still subdued compared to others. It has a medium body and finishes dry and bitter with some mild fruitiness. A very competent IPA, but my least favorite so far from this brewer.

On tap at Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours clear golden with a white head and a floral aroma. There is a hearty pale malt flavor with a dry nicely bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Pours golden copper with a little haze. Thick head that dissipates slowly. Smooth, light body. Nice aroma of citrus, poppy, hop bitterness and some carmel malt sweetness. Very drinkable , smooth and balanced.

Bottle shared with Bill, pours clearish copper with thick and lasting head. Aromas and flavor are bitter hops, malt, poppy, and tangerine. Easy going, but not that memorable. Needs more hops and less malt.

Tap: Clear copper color with a small off-white head. Peppery lemon aroma with a piney hop flavor with a little egg in the aftertaste followed by some bitterness. Average body - not too thick or thin. Quite tasty!

Draft, on countless occasions. Pretty much my “go-to” IPA here on the Central Coast. Aroma is a nice bouquet of citrus (orange, tangerine), floral hops and a light herbal quality. Cool tropical mix with a hint of lemongrass. Pours a filtered golden color with a nice soapy white head. The head lasts for a while before finally dissipating to a thin ring on the edges. Taste follows aroma, but it is not as citrus forward. The taste is orange blossom sweetness with lingering bitterness. Sweet grain, some grass, nice malt balance. Body is a little thin with medium-high carbonation. The finish is drier than your average IPA. Aftertaste has lingering citrusy bitterness. Overall a very clean, fruity IPA that stays clear of the DANK, with some herbal quality in aroma. The body a little light, but I really dig the dry finish.

Appearance: Poured a little cloudy with an average head. Smell: I got piney hops in the nose. Taste: Not as hoppy as I anticipated from the smell. More disappointing: I’m getting wet cardboard on my tastebuds. Mouthfeel: Medium body. Drinkability: Just too sharp in the aftertaste and unbalanced for my palette. Maybe a bad bottle? One thing I really liked: the bottle art. Upbeat typography and art set an optimistic tone.

Cask. Dark amber, almost brown, with a one-finger white head and decent lace. Notes of toffee and nuts, but little in terms of hops. Medium body, minimal carbonation, prickly mouthfeel, seetish finish.

Pours light amber/gold with a frothy/bubbly white head. Aroma is light fruit and berry. Med body. Flavor is bitingly bitter. If you like this try El Toro Deuce. A malty backbone that only shows up occasionally. I doubt ale gets more bitter, and the fruit/berry aspects are very nice and balance the bitterness.
