3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BBB63 (5028) - La Porte, USA - SEP 19, 2010
Tap at the Back Road Autumn Fest: Coppery hue with an excellent head and lace (even in the small sample glass), The aroma is very fruity and resiny with some clove and peppery esters. Caramel and bready malt vapours along with some leafy earthy tones. The taste is twangy citric fruits and snappy hop bitterness with some piney elements. Supported by a good background of sweet and pale malts, spicy finish. Nice crisp and lively mouth feel, a bit astrengent but nothing to get in the way of the refreshment. A very good beer overall and must I say the best I have had so far from Figure Eight.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 queenholly (520) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - MAR 9, 2012
Bottle. Soapy caramel malt aroma, no significant hop aroma.Clear amber with a minimal off white head. Slightly sweet caramel malt followed by bitter grassy hop flavor. Seems a little out of balance....the bitterness and sweetness seemed to be fighting one another instead of working together. Medium body.
4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Fly1C5 (2) - - JAN 5, 2012 does not count
Pours a rich amber color and has a citrusy aroma. At 100 IBU there is definitely the bite you’d expect from a double IPA but yet has a quality that makes it very drinkable. Tried both a 22oz. and a growler. Highly recommend.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 wnoble (694) - French Lick, Indiana, USA - OCT 1, 2011
Pours red with a nice dense off white head. Nose is orange, citrus, sweet caramel, fruits, grass, resins. Flavor is pretty caramely, but lots of resinous grapefruit and bitter orange peel citrus dank. Mouthfeel is nice. Quite bitter. I really like this one but I think there is too much caramel character for an IIPA or IPA. good.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 iugrad93 (236) - Indiana, USA - AUG 12, 2011
22 oz bomber poured a cloudy, copper color with white head and little lacing. Aromas of citrus, caramel, and notes of hay or earthiness. Taste is malty bitterness with some mild sweetness. Palate is medium bodied, with a long, dry, astringent finish. Overall, this has some nice flavor but really has more bite and astringent aftertaste than I like. Not bad, but for my money, many others are better.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 HoppyAlesToYou (119) - Saint John, Indiana, USA - JUL 9, 2011
Some caramel joins the grapefruit and pine aromas, pretty standard for some DIPAs. It looks like it should, and is fairly creamy and oily. This is the only F8 brew I have had that rally conforms to style, but it is a solid offering.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Block (864) - West Lafayette, Indiana, USA - JUL 4, 2011
One of the better offerings from Figure Eight. Nice hoppy aroma and flavor. A sweet malt profile balances this beer nicely.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 LtDan (1495) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - MAY 7, 2011
Appearance: Pours an amber tinted yellow gold with a clear body. The head was a mere white ring around the top.
Aroma: Caramel corn, flowers, fruit and grain.
Taste: Caramel malt with big bitter lingering hops.
Mouthfeel: Thick.
Overall: Pretty decent.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 screigh (346) - Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA - APR 17, 2011
Pours a clear copper color. Little to no head that quickly went away. No lacing at all. Aroma is sweet with a weird hint of mustard. Taste is tangy sweet and reminds me of sour fruit. I get about zero bitterness and no hop flavor or aroma.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 fear025 (212) - Illinois, USA - MAR 5, 2011
Aroma:There’s lots of sweet malt in the aroma, and just a hint of citrus.
Appearance:Deep amber in color, low head and poor retention.
Taste:On first sip, I get a some copper flavors. After a few sips, that goes away, but it was still a little unpleasant. Next, on the foretaste there is a decent amount of bitter hops, along with some sweet caramelized malt flavor. The hops are kind of leathery and spicy, and fade slowly through the aftertaste.
Palate:The body is medium thickness. Good carbonation.
Overall:It’s an interesting beer, but I’m not sure I can really get behind the hop flavors. By reading the bottle, I can tell that they simply doubled the recipe for their "Where Lizards Dare" IPA. It’s possible that I got an old bottle, but without any date stamps it’s tough to tell. I would suggest they experiment with different hop flavors for their next DIPA.

Draft sample at IBGW 2011. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate bubblegum hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. This beer met my expectations.
