3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MesandSim (7118) - London, Greater London, - MAR 9, 2008A Sim rate (cask at Hove BF): Red wine and sweetness in the aroma, but not nearly enough to warrant a nice porter. Dark colour, but not quite opaque. Biscuity, bitter malt flavour that’s so so bitter in the finish. Such a watery palate. It’s such a letdown. I got a half pint of this and a taster of the Bottlewreck porter. I should’ve done it the other way ’round. Didn’t even finish this beer.

Medium bodied, black with a small frothy head. Has a burnt marshmallow aroma.

Cask at the FILO, Hastings. Pitch black with a chestnut glow and a dense tan head; aroma of sweet milk chocolate and coffee; smooth abd dry with lots of rich, earthy, chocolate malts and a touch of espresso coffee; then a dry fruity finish with a lingering touch of licorice. An excellent porter.

Cask (handpump) at the Southampton Arms on 3 December 2010. Dark ruby colour. No head. Not much condition. Some chocolate and a hint of coffee. Mainly sharp fruit - berries and plums. Fairly light mouthfeel. Could have been in better nick.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - JAN 1, 2009
Cask at the Eastbourne Beer Festival, 9th Oct 2008. Pitch black appearance with a little cream head. Soft medicinal herb and berry notes on the nose lead you onward to a an intense coffee start to the sip but then the flavour broadens out to include more berry flavours and roasted notes. A very interesting and challenging porter with lots of fun flavours.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mabel (5043) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 12, 2007
[639-20070919] Cask @ First In Last Out (Hastings, ES). Malty coffee roast aroma. Clear, dark brown red body with a small long-lasting foamy white head. Coffee malt flavour. Medium-full body is smooth. Interesting porter.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 SilkTork (4919) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, WALES - MAR 15, 2007
FILO, Hastings Soft, mildly creamy, with an embracing blanket of ducks down. Flavoursome without weight or aggression. Hints of coffee, chocolate and roast, as expected from a dark beer. Soft hopping bitterness. Everything is here, but in a restrained manner - and that is well suited to the soft and comforting mouthfeel. Soft, jammy raspberry fruit near the finish, and jelly in the swallow. Charming.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - JAN 3, 2007
Cask conditioned @ FILO, Hastings. Dark berries and malt. Fruity acidity goes well with the light roasty flavours.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 duff (5484) - Lund, SWEDEN - MAR 30, 2006
Cask@The Sussex Beer festival, Hove. Quite sweet, with notable caramel/toffee characters. Very subtle roasted characters, very soft, vanishing flavours. This tasted like a mild to me.
