1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 scotty (904) - - FEB 21, 2009
I usually like Batemans beers and gold/blonde beers are one of my favourite styles but this is poor, thin and lacks much in the way of aroma and flavour. Poor stuff, try the triple xb instead.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 4, 2012
500ml Brown bottle brewed by Batemans for the Aldi Supermarket chain: this one had a best before date of 30 Apr 2012, I poured it into my Abbot Ale glass tankard on 3 Mar 2012.
As its name implies, this is a golden pale colour: well actually it is more leaning towards a copper/amber hue to my eyes. The head is a healthy looking white crown of large bubbles, minute trails rise through the clear, bright body.
The aroma is of slightly cirtusy hops and baked malty bread.
The taste is again hoppy and on the dry, bittering side, almost grapefruit in its sourness and citrus undertones. Refreshing is most likely the best word to use, this isn’t flavoursome or rich, this is a Pale Ale with a bite and some alcohol kick. When remembering it is a cheap supermarket beer it represents good value and I’d certainly think about buying more if my beer budget has to shrink in the future.

4.2%, pale amber colour with a thin head, aroma of hops, had it with a curry so not sure about the taste will review again at a later date.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Pyobon (568) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - SEP 26, 2011
(Bottle) Clear pale copper / amber with some white head. Some pleasant aroma of grassy / flop hops. Pleasant mouthfeel - medium body and carbonation (when poured I thought it was going to be fizzy, but the carbonation is fine). Flavour is very acceptable, but unexceptional. Slightly tangy refreshing start followed by soft maltiness developing into a reasonable bitter finish. I think I detected candy or pear drops in there somewhere. Overall, very drinkable.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 tommann (1451) - Dudley, West Midlands, ENGLAND - FEB 13, 2011
500ml bottle. Pours dark gold with a medium head. Aroma is boring bready malt. Taste is bready malt throughout with a slight hop bitterness on the finish.
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 AndrewC (265) - Canterbury, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 13, 2010
Bottle badged as Finchley’s Golden Pale Ale. Well it’s not exactly golden. It’s more like a pale copper colour. Anyway... Smells of the tide-line after the sun’s been at it. Quite a peppery hop in the mouth. Nice spicy, peppery finish. Quite dry. A slight malt flavour’s in there somewhere. Probably a good beer to have with steak and chips.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 johndoughty (2946) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - MAY 29, 2010
Bottle. Golden, clear and a bit lively upon opening. Not a lot of carbonation so my initial fears about it being over lively soon disappeared. Some hoppiness with a presence of fruit. A typical pleasant Batemans beer.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 tkrjukoff (2676) - SWEDEN - APR 29, 2010
Pours dark amber with white head. Malts, caramel and some citrus aroma. Hoppy, a bit sweet-bitter flavor with tones of grapefruit. Round and nice on palate. Finish is bitter-hoppy which lasts for a quite a while.
2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 downender (4389) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - JUL 16, 2009
Clear gold in colour with slight carbonation. Skunky, boiled sweet and tired hop aroma. light mouth feel, with sweet, barley sugar flavours and a hint of a bitter finish. Another English pasteurised bottled beer failure - sink pour.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 weaselkenievil (1093) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - JAN 21, 2009
Bottle from Aldi somewhere. Golden with a thinner head than slabhead Jamie at my old school if anyone remembers him. And it went quicker than the Flash on ice. Smells a little dusty and like that wooden floor polish they used to do the floors with at school. Slight fruit, malts and butter with a hint of metal. As you can imagine, not a winning combination.
