Bottle from Aldi, Aylesbury, Bucks, consumed 13-01-09 Pours reddy to copper in colour with an off white head. There is a reasonable tanginess to this, a slight metallic tinge which I’m sure that I detected in the one of these Aldi/Batemans beers that I had the other day. Some furry dryness, a little bitterness. Its better than expected but that’s not a ringing endorsement. A5 A4 F6 P3 OV11

Bottle. Chestnut coloured with an off-white foam. Aromas are toffee with earthy, nutty notes. Spicy with some chocolate undertones. Flavours are chocolate and toffee malts with some vinous fruit. Earthy and peppery with a flat soda water finish.

UPDATED: JAN 13, 2011 Oct, 2008 As XB English Ale. 500ml bottle from Aldi. Ruby coloured ale. Apple notes. Fairly dry. Some nutty notes and a bit of chocolate. It’s an OK beer, but it lacks character, and is largely indistinguishable from any other British bottled ale. Quite drinkable - good hop integration, though the malt is a little flat. [2.7]
Jan, 2011 As Finchley’s Ales India Pale Ale. Touch of barley sugar. Few hops. Crisp carbonation. Very clean. Typical British regional brewery bottled ale. It’s drinkable. But you’re not going to get a hard on. [2.6]

DruncanVeasey (5150) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - OCT 26, 2008
Clear chestnut capped with a stable off-white head. Nose not unpleasant boiled sweetness, Werthers, caramel, musty aroma hops. Mouth marzipan, caramel, assertive bittering hop, chalky Yorkshire softness. Lingers bitterly. Not bad.

imdownthepub (7491) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 21, 2008
Bottled, 500ml, pasteurised from Aldi, Banbury. Copper brown with white head. Approached this with trepidation, but it turned out to be not bad at all. Heavyish darkly roasted malts, ok a little tinny, sharp, with a vegetal, boiled hop note, but deep, toffeish malt. Fairly decent.

scotty (904) - SCOTLAND - AUG 23, 2008
Bottled for Aldi. Deepish copper, thin white head. Rich powerful nose of malt & fruit, full bodied with a malt dominated palate. Hoppy bitters appear on the finish. Good beer.

Bottle under the Aldi label. Bronze and medium body. Some maltiness with a lingering bitter finish. Pleasant.

50cl bottle from Aldi, Alfreton. Copper with a thin white head; roasted malt aroma; rich chewy malt flavours but rather stewed; lacking any real finish. Not bad for an own-label.
