Finch’s Pale Ale is a refreshing experience from the pop of the top. Its fresh and hoppy taste with just enough supporting malt makes it easy to kick back more than just one. Our late kettle additions of American hop varieties and dry hopping techniques make this beer one of our favorites. Can. Light amber body with an off-white head, rapidly diminishing. Floral aroma with notes of toasted grain and not much else. The flavor lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture turning slightly syrupy, moderate carbonation. Husky taste. Bitterness dominates with few hop flavors except for some slight resin and grapefruit. Way too much raw grain in the flavor.

Session Beer! Slightly hazy with thick white head poured from can. Weedy, floral hops nose with tiny hint of sweet caramel in nose as it warms. Watery mouthfeel with less carbonation than I expected. A bit unbalanced as malts are hard to detect and finishes with dry, grassy, bitter hop finish. Easy drinker, though.

Pint Can: Pours cloudy light brown with a short tan head. Aroma is slightly fruity, caramel. Taste is floral/herbal hops over citrus. Mild bitter. Not bad.

Can thank to Brigadier! Dirty dark tan/orange pour, 1/4 inch lasting frothy carbonation and an aroma of very herbal hops. Flavor is bitter orange rind, more herbal hops, dry on the finish and very malty all the way through. Not bad.

Slightly better than average pale ale. Not much to distinguish itself. Sweet caramel and the piney hops are both understated, perhaps too much and there was a musky staleness I didn’t particularly like. Tried with Dave and Breanna at the Hopleaf in Chicago, Aug. 2012.

Draft at Jerry’s. Hazy golden-orange with good, foamy, white head / Bright nose of orange, pine, sour malt, and resin / Light to medium body, hint of sweetness, somewhat chewy with excellent balance and lightly biting, bitter, finish / Flavors of orange, grapefruit, pine, dry hops, and a touch of bubblegum / An outstanding, sessionable, pale.

Canned. Very hazy light orange with a gigantic, frothy off-white head that you could carve a sculpture in. Great aroma that captures the essence of a brew day better than any beer I can recall from recent memory - zesty, citric hops and sugary, caramel grains so delicately balanced that one never fully dominates the other. Mild-to-moderately bitter with a mild, fruity grapefruit sweetness. Finish has a little bit of wet wheat and husky rye graininess. Only noticeable knock is the slightly weak palate, but that’s not enough to claim this to be anything less than world class. Very well done.

On tap @ Brixie’s. Pours dark gold with a white head. Aroma of grass, citrus, pine, some malt. Nice citrus bitterness and just the right amount of hops. Easy to drink. Well done.

On tap at Lunar Brewing Co. and dispensed to a shaker with a hazed, golden amber hue, decent, off white head foam, and clingy dots & dashes of lacing. The aroma gave off grassy hints, some light wood, a little citrus, pine and fresh hop cone scent, but also a slight hint of leafy tobacco? The flavor added some moderate, lingering hop bitterness that came off a little sharp, and might well have been tempered by a little stronger malt content. Still a quaffable brew that could have easily been tagged an IPA.

Can poured an amber in color with a thin coating of white head and a fair amount of sediment floating around. Aroma has resins, citrus, and some caramel. Mouth feel is on the light side and the carbonation medium low. Flavor has some resins, pine, dusty citrus, and some wet herbs.
