Decently hopped. Complexity is low but it is a tasty beer that goes down nicely.

Hazy red amber. Fruitcake, maple and hop on the nose. Full-bodied and well balanced with both sweet and bitter notes and a lengthy finish. Tasty.

Strong, malty aroma has a firm overtone of dry hops, rather like a good IPA. Pours a clear mahogany, quite appetizing, with a thick, fine-bubbled, rather persistent pale wheat head that leaves some good lacing. Flavor is quite hoppy, like an IPA, with malty, fruity and caramel notes rounding out the satisfying taste. Smooth texture has average body and plenty of fizz. Go ahead, hog one!

So far the few Finch’s beers I have tried have been solid. This one might be the best of the bunch. It is a little more expensive but still in the ballpark of something you might pick up once or twice a week. I really need to make it up to Chicago some time to check them out in person.

Aroma / Appearance - The ruby red body radiates warmth. Ashen white head bobs on top like wave crests. Grassy hops mixed with handfuls of trampled mud linger in the air like the last person at a party. Rye bread with a strong malty base complete a balanced profile.

Flavor / Palate - Like a chewy Twix bar this sticks in the corners of the mouth and throat. Resiny hops slide across the tongue. Over time it begins to warm the palate. Maybe this is a love it or leave it release but I’d buy more.

Enjoyed via a bottle purchased from Otto’s in Shorewood. Pours a cloudy mahogany with a medium lacy head. Smells of dried fruit, apple cider, fennel and light rye bread. The taste is plum, rye and strong, grassy hops. Strong with a boozy whiskey flavor on the front end but more bitter hops on the end. I bitter and dry aftertaste. There is a slight metallic note in the taste but it is mostly if almost entirely covered by the flavor of the hops.

Bomber. Pours to a deep red-brown body with a tan head. Aroma of rye bread and light earthy hops and fennel. Flavor is very malty with lots of rye bread and some unique hops. Almost like a earthy spice mix with fennel, thyme, and rosemary. Palate is medium bodied. Dominated by that feel that comes with drinking some Sambuca or other anise flavored liquor. Bitter finish.

Bomber. Poured clear lighter orange with a short-lived, dense beige head. The aroma picked up sweet caramel and bready malts topped by a bright dose of peppery alcohol-amplified artificial sweeteners.. hot and fruity on the back of the nose.. not well balanced. The flavor followed similar lines.. artificial sweetness and hot alcohol throughout.. black pepper and fruity bitterness over some caramel.. finished spicy, fruity, and too aggressive. Medium-bodied and sharp through the palate.. not a good feel and flow.. not a good beer.

Pours a hazy copper with a white head. Smells earthy with some perfumy undertones. Tastes of light spice, some sweet malt, some vegetal hints with a malty finish.

Found this one bottled at Binny’s in St. Charles, Illinois. Potent alcoholic finish, tastes of raisin.

Bottle to taster. Looks solid; a semi-cloudy amber with creme head that dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes solid too; sweet and caramely like a barleywine with a hoppy finish. Good on the palate. Good beer.
