Bomber. Poured clear lighter orange with a short-lived, dense beige head. The aroma picked up sweet caramel and bready malts topped by a bright dose of peppery alcohol-amplified artificial sweeteners.. hot and fruity on the back of the nose.. not well balanced. The flavor followed similar lines.. artificial sweetness and hot alcohol throughout.. black pepper and fruity bitterness over some caramel.. finished spicy, fruity, and too aggressive. Medium-bodied and sharp through the palate.. not a good feel and flow.. not a good beer.

Pours a hazy copper with a white head. Smells earthy with some perfumy undertones. Tastes of light spice, some sweet malt, some vegetal hints with a malty finish.

Bottle to taster. Looks solid; a semi-cloudy amber with creme head that dissipates into lacing. Smells and tastes solid too; sweet and caramely like a barleywine with a hoppy finish. Good on the palate. Good beer.

Bomber, purchased for the awesome label. Caramel malts, toffee sweetness. Too sweet for me.

2.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Deep red amber color. Nose of caramel, candy syrup, and some light citrus/grapfruit hops. Flavor is light toasted malt and caramel that quickly fades to a very dry, astringent hop water flavor. Not good. Dry lingering hop water. Astringent.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
22oz bottle from Binny’s Plainfield. Pours a deep amber-red colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is pretty malty with a decent amount of hops. Toffees and medium sweet caramels with some orange citruses, a few pines, lemon florals, a light toast, and maybe a hint of rye spice. Flavor is similar. Malt forward with caramel and toffee as well as a touch of spicy rye. A good amount of dry floral hops in the middle with citrus grapefruits, oranges, and lemons. Touches of pine as this finishes malty sweet, but dry and bitter with a balanced hopping. Light sweetness remains with no stickiness, which is nice. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium body and a soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, a nice example of a bigger red. Fairly malty and sweet, but nicely balanced with a good amount of citrusy florals giving this a firm bitterness. Pretty good beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at GTMW 12. Pours a deep red, looks like Arrogant Bastard. Yellowish head. The nose shows as citrus and floral hops, strong toffee and toast notes. Clean overall but kind of a muddy balance. On tasting, moderately high bitterness, some floral and fruity hops. Medium-full bodied and some sweetness. Just muddy and doesn’t really work for me.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
When I spotted this on the shelf, I knew I had to try it, and wondered if neigboring Revolution Brewing was jealous that Finch’s came up with this name first. Bomber pours a hazy dark red/brown with a decent beige head and good lacing. Aroma is very malty with some rye and citrus hops. Taste is sweet with some hoppy bitterness in the finish, but not enough to counter al the caramel and toffee. Body is medium to full, with a sticky mouthfeel and average carbonation. Drink this one slowly, or the lingering sweetness might be overwhelming.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft at Jerry’s. Red-amber with good, soft, foamy tan head / Lightly sweet, bright nose of spun sugar, rye, weed, and citrus / Medium body, very creamy and smooth, sweet, good balance with alcohol well masked, and modestly bitter finish / Fresh flavors of burnt sugar and rye with notes of grapefruit and pineapple / A very nice, easy drinking despite the big alcohol, pale ale.
