I think the user "nearbeer___" below me nailed it - ditto what he said. The fact that I can acquire this beer in a can is the icing on the cake. Will be picking this one up regularly!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JUN 21, 2013 Pint can. Pours a cloudy copper-brown with a lasting quarter inch of creamy bubbles. Aroma is spicy toffee, toast, dark cherries, resin, and earthy dried wood. Flavor is big toffee on the front followed closely by orange, a touch of cherry, then a finish of peppery rye and dried resinous wood. Medium body is soft and chewy, but well balanced by the tingly rye and hop finish. Low-average carbonation and no notice of the 8% abv makes this unique ASA dangerously drinkable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft @ When Pigs Fly. Hazy amber color with some retention. The aroma is spicy hops and caramel. The flavor starts with caramel and toffee. Notes of rye and some faint herbal hops notes in the finish. Its medium bodied with moderate carbonation. I never would have guessed it was an 8 percent beer, so it does have some drinkability. However, overall the flavor wasn’t getting me real excited.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(pint can) Pours red amber, with a creamy buff head. Aroma is pleasantly complex - Butter biscuit, slightly sweet, a bit of spice. Taste starts like a Scotch Ale, slightly sweet, malty, then the finish adds a dry, bitter component to the sweeter start, creating some balance to the initial Scotch Ale impression. Mouthful is unctous leaving some sweet and some bitter on the palate - creme brulee with bitter orange. Overall a very interesting brew. The rye and the hops add a new, and pleasant dimension to what would otherwise be a somewhat familiar profile
