Draft. Poured clear dark amber color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy sour citrus & rye malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations were exceeded.

Sample at the Big Tap In on 04/20/2013. Hazy reddish-brown color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Malt, pine and hops in the nose. Medium-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, resiny hops and a touch of spice. The finish is malty up front with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bomber. Poured clear lighter orange with a short-lived, dense beige head. The aroma picked up sweet caramel and bready malts topped by a bright dose of peppery alcohol-amplified artificial sweeteners.. hot and fruity on the back of the nose.. not well balanced. The flavor followed similar lines.. artificial sweetness and hot alcohol throughout.. black pepper and fruity bitterness over some caramel.. finished spicy, fruity, and too aggressive. Medium-bodied and sharp through the palate.. not a good feel and flow.. not a good beer.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 04/11/12. Lightly hazed russet brown with reddish hues, thin bubbly off white head that soon forms a pond and clears to the edges. Big caramel malt nose, dark sugars, touch of hops. Tastes of caramel malts, sweet sugars, raisens, hops. Fuller end of medium bodied with soft carbonation and smooth on the palate.

Decently hopped. Complexity is low but it is a tasty beer that goes down nicely.
