Really enjoyed this strong ale from Finch- had a pour of this at Leopold, a gastropub in Chicago’s West Town. Lovely aroma with a strong rye smell, a lovely balance of hops on the finish. A little sour, a bit bitter, but all perfectly balanced and tasty.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
A small taste from tap @ One Pint Pub. Pours slightly cloudy amber with a high off-white head. Aroma is malts with some brett. Flavor is slightly fruity malts with some more brett and hops. It’s not bad but I’m pretty sure this shouldn’t be sour.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap@1pp. Orange-reddish hazy. Vinegar and funk on nose, resinous malty, pines. Fullish body. Not really tart, but dryish feel still, bitter, pine biting finish. Possibly a foul keg unless its supposed to smell like a sour. Lots of malts, sort of nice easy body tho for the abv and malt presence (..which might be unintended). Flavourful, but feels just messy now.

Tap @ The Bull.
Pours murky orange color with a small head. Hops and malts on the nose, some faint pine and grapefruits. Flavor is harsh bitter malts, grapefruits and mild caramel, some gooseberries and faint resin. A bit too harsh, alcohol comes through a bit too.

Really not sure what I don’t love this on. Probably because all the other beer I tried today was so excellent.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma was the best thing here with good malt, rye, hops. Flavor had a huge metallic component.and a medicinal finish. Body is ok. Hopes were kind of dashed after that first great whiff. Oh well.
