From the can with an expiration date of 2/23/16. Cloudy looking brown pour with a lingering tan colored head and lacing. The aroma is chocolate, caramel, and then the barrel aging whiskey kicks in. Low hop profile. The body is medium to full. The sweet chocolate and caramel shows up in the flavor at first but the boisterous whiskey barrel aging kicks in and digs into the senses.

Finch’s Pig in the Wood has a thin, yellow-white head, a lacing sheen left behind, and a murky, red-tan appearance. The aroma is of vanilla, coconut, rye whiskey, alcohol, red malts, and dates. Taste is of all that, with some fairly hefty bitterness to prevent nauseating sweetness. Mouthfeel is heavy, and Pig in the Wood finishes full and boozy. For a chewy mess, it’s not bad. I’d rather drink Icehouse Edge, honestly. RJT

Can from Brewtopia. Murky diarrhea color with ring and some lace. Caramel toasted nuts booze and herbal hop aroma. Caramel sweetness with nuts and overripe fruit with aggressive herbal bitterness that lingers with the wood and booze. Medium full body and fairly high fine carbo. Pretty much all around unpleasant. Hard to believe that this and the delicious Stone Kentucky Bourbon Bastard are basically the same style. This is harsh.

you take a chance when you make a beer like this. i find these types particularly insulting when it comes to bourbon even though most of those beers are good. i just think it’s a cop out. i mean easy to take a half assed brew and flavor it up in a bourbon barrel which adds in what you couldnt do in the first place. now i will be a hypocrit and state that i like this beer. even though it’s not very beery. the whiskey flavor slightly oakey sweet so warming with the hit of salt near the end. barely fishey maybe burnt a touch i dont know. that character with the un assuming whiskey that’s good but doesnt remind of which whiskey. mmmmmm good.

Nice reddish brown pour, beige head fades rapidly, nice lacing. Boozy aroma, caramel and wood. Taste is fairly sweet, fig, caramel and maybe some burnt sugar. Medium body, terrific creamy texture, not a lot of lingering carbonation. Taste stays with you. I suspect this is Fascist Pig aged in whisky barrels, and that makes a really good beer even better. I will look forward to this again!

Pours out an odd reddish color with a moderate off white head. Aroma is of bourbon, wood, caramel, light booze, vanilla and some lingering boozy notes. Taste is complex, caramel, bourbon, vanilla, wood, some sticky almost syrupy sweetness in there and a mild burn of some mild burning alcohol in the finish.
