Tasted on 8/14/11 from a can. Pours hazy burnt orange with a thick white head that slowly recedes to spotty, uneven lace. The nose is malty bread with some earthy yeast and lightly bitter and spicy hops. The flavor is more bitter with the same bread malt and earthy yeast. The body is light with lively carbonation and a long spicy and bitter hops finish.

Draft at Plainfield MWBF. I’m guessing they either made another batch or they actually have been letting this mature a little bit. At any rate, not fucken bad. Pours a deep amber, mostly translucent. Nose is spicy with some light minty notes and bread. On taste, has a crispness to it and some dry rye astringency. A bit spicy and rounded. A bit too much caramel in here, but otherwise an okay beer.

Draft... Ugly dark gold, light tan head... Generic malt, sweet with a touch of rye, meh... The taste is not good at all, terrible chemical finish, spicy rye with alcohol... Pass

On tap at the Hop Leaf in Chicago. Pours a hazy dark orange with a thick white head. Aroma of pale malts. Flavor of pale bready malt with rye spice in the finish. Drinkable and pleasant. 7/4/7/4/14 [3.6/5]

Draft on tap at Front Street Cantina (Naperville, IL). Pours a nice glowing amber hue, darker overall, orange, but dulled, with a frothy white head of moderate sized that cakes, dies to a decent layer and laces ok. Aromas are bready malts, pale, and touches of rye. Light spice, some floral and grassy hops. Simple, a touch of metal and light underlying fruity quality. Initial is moving into lighter end of medium bodied, caramel and toffee meet some rye, bready malts, and biscuits. Touches of spice, fruit, and and rye. Sweeter overall, a heavier malt profile makes me not enjoy this as much. Into the backend some more dryness, grassy and floral hops, touch of metal. Lingering sweet sticky malts kinda dominate this for me, similar to the Cut Throat, it has that similar malt profile.. With a boatload of hops it worked, but in this case it gets a bit too sweet, remains bland for me. Strange beer, my least favorite Finch beer to date. It wants to be a Cali Common, but it doesn’t give that vibe. Hmmmmmm.
