Pounder can from Whole Foods PM. Pours turbid dark brownish black with 2-finger frothy tan head. Nose is heavy resiny hops, roasty dark malt, citrus. Tastes very piney, resiny, hoppy, with roasty dark malt and floral flavors. Finishes dry and resiny.

Tap at Engine Room. Black with darker tan head. Roasty nose. Dark malt and hops conflict a bit here with burnt and roast winning out. Not sure this works for me.

16 oz can pours dark with a nice creamy lace off white head that stays. Smells of mix of roasted malts and piney hops. Has a nice creamy mouthfeel and nice body, incredibly easily drinkable for 8%. Has a roasted malt flavor, hops nicely accentuate the bitterness of the malt but aren’t particularly strong. Still this is quite a nice Black IPA, it doesn’t overdo it on either malt or hops like most, which makes it one of the better representations of the style.

16 oz. can purchased at the Beer Store, Nashua, NH. Pours pitch black with lasting fluffy head. Aroma shows light roast with a moderate amount of earthy pine. I enjoy the aroma.

The Flavor show the nice lingering pine throughout the sip with a decent amount of roast. Thicker caramel and burnt malts supports the pine and mild notes of citrus. Citrus only found when it was real warm in the last 7 oz. of the beer. (Sipped this slow) secondary tones of coffee. The texture is dry with a decent medium to fuller body. A nice drink.

16oz can from Crossroads. Pours black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of light roasted malt, chocolate, sweet lemon, and some caramel. Taste of burnt malts, milk chocolate, earthy nuttiness, old lemons, and caramel.

16oz can from Xroads. Poured a pitch black flat body with a slightly larger deep creamy head. Aroma/flavor of sweet chocolate, light roast, medium burnt toast, pineapple and some burnt chocolate on the end. Medium body, creamy, softer carbonation. Men it’s nice but was hoping for more.

2/8/15. 16oz can thanks to rdixon77. Black pour with a small tan head. Rich, sweet aroma, roast, coffee, chocolate, caramel. Sweet flavor, coffee, caramel, chocolate. If given blind I would have guessed this was a stout, especially as it warmed. Not bad.

Sweet bIPA. Dark mahogny. Aroma of pine, caramel, earthy hops. Taste is surprising sweet of toffee, caramel, and candy. Roasted malts and earthy hops linger. Almost creamy mouthfeel. Interesting, pretty good.

Finch’s Sobek & Set has a thin, cream-colored head, a very dark brown (almost black) appearance, and a good amount of lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of dark-roasted barley malt, sweet, brown bread crust, and the slightest amount of hop oils. Mouthfeel is medium and a touch slick, and Finch’s Sobek & Set finishes semi-dry and pretty easy drinking for an 8% beer. RJT
