Pint can. What I really like about this ale is the aromatic and flavorful blend and balance of chocolate malt and piney resinous hops. Dark black with a tan head and medium body. At 8% this is a substantial black IPA in every sense. Exactly what I want in this style.

can. Deep brown with one finger head. Roasty, dark chocolate malts. Moderate hops. Well balanced between the very malty base and the hop bitterness.

Very dark brown, with a remaining thinner lid of tiny tan bubbles. Roasted malt, dark chocolate, herbal hops and hints of coffee in the aroma. Full, slightly oily feel. Heavy sweet malt flavors, roasted and toasted. Middle has a mix of citric hops and light pine. More citrus in the finish along with ashy to black malt. Linger has a touch of wintergreen. Much better than I expected. 1/14

Draft at Beer Authority. Dark brown with a tan head that leaves coating lace on the glass. Roasted malts, caramel, pine hops, and some herbal notes. Balanced malt and hop presence. Soft carbonation, clean, somewhat dry close. Pretty nice example of the style.

Can. Head is initially average sized, frothy, brown, fully lasting. Body is black (non-opaque, flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately malty (roasted grain, coffee, carob/cocoa powder, cookie), lightly hoppy (grapefruit, resin), with a light note of sherry/cardboard. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Iíve no idea how old this is...the brewery stamped the bottom with numbers like 00621 and 00658, which is neither a normal date nor a Julian date, so I guess itís a batch number. There is some mild oxidation in this sample and the hops are also faded, so this may not be that representative, but itís actually pretty decent as-is. Nice malt notes, nice lasting head, nice mouthfeel. Presumably even better when very fresh.

hoppy, slight malt aroma. pitch black in color with a really nice head. Taste is actually nicely balanced with roasted barley and dark malts, slight coffee, hints of chcolate with good resiny hop flavor. I normally donít like IPAs, but this one has a lot of character.

Ponder can via Sloth. Mellow hoppy waft of a nose. Body of a stout. Low lie, the fields of Athenry! A groovy drinker, I could hit about four of these in a row right now. No tin from the can... Dark as a black steers toucous on a moonless prairie night. Thin burnt umber head settles to rings quickly. Some mellow quaff rings. The dude abides.
