COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Threadless/Finch collaboration IPA is a balanced experience of both perceived hoppiness and true bitterness. It pours a darker amber color and finishes with a citrus flavor, and when combined, will require this to be the last IPA you ever drink! Well, maybe, we realize you will probably drink more, but the result of this recipe clearly evolves into a very balanced IPA. The grain bill on this big pale includes melanoidin and Victory malts. We hop it up before the boil starts with some Columbus first wort hopping, then add a bunch more for bittering.

Location: Can at Monkey Bar in Philthy, 11/16/13

Aroma: The nose is grassy and hoppy, some pine, earth, citrus, and a hint of butter
Appearance: It pours a heavy golden-amber color with an off-white head
Flavor: The taste is pretty nice and hoppy, but then that buttery malt flavor kicks in
Palate: The body is medium, it has a pretty nice feel, and drinks really easily
Overall Impression: I thought this was a good attempt at an IPA with some nice hoppy components to it, but thereís a bit of a buttery malt flavor that just really hampers the quality of the beer overall.

Resinous tropical and grapefruit aromas. Hazy orange unfiltered appearance. Bitter up front, mellows out to a sweeter finish. Mainly bitter nonetheless. Medium body, seems kind of flat relative to its overall profile. Not an IPA I was thrilled with.

Too dark for an ipa. Hazy and cloudy. Didnít like the sediments left over in the glass. 4 pack for $9. Pretty disappointed.

16oz can. Pours a very hazy golden amber qith a white head. Another below average for the style brew from Finchís. Watery mouthfeel. Some slight pine and apricot notes, enough to make it drinkable but nothing great here.

16oz can. Pours a hazy amber color with a two finger white head that leaves good lacing and falls to a cap. Aroma is apricot, some citrus rind, herbal, grassy, floral hops and a bit of pine, and a decent amount of caramel malt. Flavor is orange citrus, apricot, pine, resinous hops, good caramel malt backbone offering some sweetness, that finishes with good bitterness, and mild alcohol. Medium bodied, creamy, good carbonation.

Pours a clear gold with a creamy white head. Smells of mostly piney/citrusy hops. Very little malt detectable, but also had food at the table so didnít get the best nose. Holy bitter Batman! Pine and more pine from the hops and a weird roasted barley thing. The malt profile almost seems like something out of a stout. Everything combined together just made this a complete bitter bomb. Not well balanced at all and the flavors didnít work together. Mouthfeel and carbonation were about what youíd expect from an IPA. Not worth it. I love IBUís and have had very few beers ever Iíve described as "too bitter" but this one is way unbalanced.

Single can from Julioís. Pours out a cloudy light amber. Little to no head. Light sweet malty aromas. Flavor is interestingly bitter up front. Almost like eating coffee beans. Watery mouthfeel. Canít get over that extreme dry bitterness though. This is a mess!

Aroma of Pineapple, caramel, a little bit...minty? Lightly sweet flavor, modest bitterness on the finish, taste isnít exactly world-shattering but a solid all-around IPA flavor. Good beer, most notable for being extremely cloudy with lots of floating sediment.

Draft, Portsmouth Breweryís guest tap. Has an orange / gold color with thin quickly vanishing head. Nose is floral with hints of citrus and caramel malt. Flavor is me is about average for a standard IPA. Flavor is caramel sweetness, light pine, plenty of floral hops. After the sip I get a lightly lingering grassy note to go with the floral hops. Maybe I have become jaded by huge Imperial brews because this just didnít stand out to me at all. NOTHING wrong with it, very drinkable but it get lost in my memory of hundreds of IPAís.
