3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAY 24, 2013 5/24/13 update - Found this locally at Otto’s in pint cans. Still good, nicely aromatic. My recall likes the tap version slightly better.
4/19/13 on tap @ Balzac - Reddish amber, slightly cloudy, pillowy head. Aromas of grapefruit and orange citrus, along with baked bread maltiness. Mouthfeel has some real substance from the malt wrapped in a well balanced citrusy hop cloak. Very drinkable, satisfying and somewhat unique profile.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pint can. Nose lightly sweet and citrus, a little dank, and big on pine. Pours orange with a rocky cream head. Taste strongly bitter with strong dough and spice, seemingly a rye-like flavor component, light alcohol and warmth, big caramel and pine. There is citrus, yes, but bigger floral character, and mildly forrestal. Lightly soapy and cleansing, light-medium resin, touch scorched/burned character and some deeper malt development. Full body and very heavy, but boldly flavorful.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – Served a very hazy orange colored brew with a one finger fizzy white head. The head fades rather fast but leaves a very nice level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is rather light overall. It dose however have some aromas of a grapefruit and pine nature as well as a bit of a bready and a lightly yeasty smell.
Taste – The taste begins with some bready and a light caramel and orange flavor mixed with a rather strong grapefruit and pine hop flavor. As the flavor advances the caramel, orange, and some of the bready flavors dwindle, with the grapefruit getting stronger. While the grapefruit gets stronger the pine remains constant, but the two are joined by a grassy flavor which ends up overpowering the pine. In the end, as the sweetness lessens and the grassy and grapefruit get stronger, a rather bitter and more dry flavor is left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the average side as well. The medium body and carbonation are quite appropriate for the lighter bready and sweet flavors of the brew keeping it a rather drinkable even with its more bitter grassy and grapefruit flavors.
Overall – A rather nice drier, grapefruity bitter, and slightly grassy brew.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap poured into a shaker. The initial aroma is kinda burnt toast, but this fades and gives way to a strong citrus and spruce combination. I light caramel note comes in late. It pours a clear honey orange color with a creamy off-white head that retains a thick creamy layer across the surface as well as leaves a good amount of sheet lacing. The taste is a medium high bitter with a medium sweetness to it. The oily texture has a medium light body and creamy carbonation and it finishes with a sprucey, warm caramel, citrus and citrus peel finish. It’s a dry beer with a strong spruce / resin aftertaste.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a hazy orange with lasting head and good lacing. Aroma is fairly strong citrus zest and pine. Taste is more malt forward. OK, but not a great IPA in my opinion.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ar: Resin, black pepper - orange zest, grapefruit - intensity is fairly strong.
Ap: Golden-orange, clear - large off-white head, great retention, leaves a rocky mountain of foam.
T: Toasted malt, slight medium and light caramels - lemon and grapefruit - pine - bitterness is medium-high, clean - low sweetness - grapefruit and pine on the finish.
P: Medium body with medium carbonation - finish is medium-dry.
O: Good AIPA - hop flavor is firm and pronounced, though as sticky and pungent as some examples - it could use a bit more carbonation.
