3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 RexTalionis (1430) - FINLAND - DEC 21, 2012
Bottled. Pours light brown in color with very thin bubbly head. Notes of smoke, wood, leather and juniper in aroma. Lovely. Sweet, ripe banana in taste mostly. Some hints of that smoke and wood also appears in flavor. Oily. Chewy mouthfeel. Sweet, fruity banana mash in aftertaste. Nice, but the stronger version of this same sahti is a bit better.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Marduk (1266) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 24, 2012
750ml bottle (shared by FatPhil, thank you). Dark red, cherry stone color. Sweet, bready, some smokiness and massive banana in aroma. Yeasty, banana, bit of dead yeast bitterness in flavor. Very smooth and silky. Warmth of alcohol in every sip. It’s upgraded version of Estonians farmhouse beer and I like it.

Glass from Gallow’s Bird, Espoo. Colour is hazy brown with small white head. Aroma and flavours are banana, toffee, sweetness and malts. Quite like "weizenbock"

Pours pretty hazy mahogany color with a minimal head. Aroma of yeast, some spices, mild juniper, a bit of banana on the background but not too much, some herbal notes as well. Flavor of caramel, yeast, some mild spices and faint ripe fruit notes. Some mild alcohol burn at the end. Slick palate with a mild spicy finish. Nice balanced sahti.

Bit strange aroma has bubblegum, alcohol, dark caramel, spices, juniper, banana and clove (bit like dark wheat beer in that). Not bad..just unique. Colour is clear brown with a hint of red. No head and no lacing. Taste has sweet malt with bit bitterness and bubblegum. Not sure what juniper tastes like..maybe it is there..should be at least. Light bodied, no carbonation, sweet and bitter, slick. Well..this has been interesting. Would really like to taste one made by some local ’crazy-man’...who has been making it for years..to him and his buddies mostly...deep in the woods. This was ok anyway.

23rd December 2009 A bottle in the Rake - provided by and shared with MagicDave - Cheers Tom! Cloudy amber beer. Honey - fruit nose. Softish semi dry palate. Sweet malt - hints of juniper and a little bubblegum. Zero carbonation but it’s as smooth as a baby’s arse! Sweet and smooth. What’s not to like?
