2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 berkshirejohn (3020) - Bracknell, - MAY 25, 2007
330ml bottle from Threshers. Typical Czech lager - dark straw with a thin white head; hoppy aroma; rich malty flavour with a lightly bitter finish. Not very interesting, but nothing against it.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 johndoughty (2946) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - JUL 18, 2009
Bottle. Malty aroma and maltiness dominates. No head and quite pleasant
without standing out too much. An old rating dug out as part of my catch up
programme!
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Mungo (2472) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - MAY 24, 2007
Bottle (from threshers). A not unpleasant lager with a little malt and hop pleasant. Refreshing at a cold temperature with a little bitterness. Fairly uninteresting as the flavours are too muted to capture the attention.
1.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 TheGrandMaster (2313) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 18, 2007
Bottle, poured a golden amber with only a filmy head. A basic malty aroma with a citrus hoppiness. Terrible palate, earthy and dry. Not much flavour coming through, just a sharp hoppiness.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Nekronos (2655) - Xalapa, MEXICO - JUL 21, 2006
Totally flavourless, not bad in aroma nor in taste but it was very lager for my Czech standards. NIce colour though.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 RichardGretton (3759) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 7, 2006
Bottle. Flat looking pale golden beer with a loosely dry aroma, and a weakly dry and hopped flavour. Overall a basic lager.
1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20 JonMoore (1573) - Loughborough, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - NOV 6, 2005
Bottle. Golden with a slim white head. Aroma is sweet, starchy, lightly malty, with a homeopathic suggestion of hops. Taste is mostly rubbish; sweet and offensive. Can’t be bothered - down the sink.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - OCT 30, 2005
Bottle, from Threshers. Gold, thin shortlived white head and gentle condition. Quite nasty starch malt aroma with some background tinny hops. Still nasty and malt heavy in the mouth with lots of adjunct tastes lurking, plus a whiff of fishiness. Oily finish with some malt and no real hoppiness to speak of.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Emil (6070) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - OCT 24, 2005
Bottle. Golden colour with a medium white head. Light malty aroma and a dry sweet light hoppy taste. Medium body and a bitter dry finish.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 scotty (904) - SCOTLAND - OCT 4, 2005
To be fair I’ve had this loads of times prior to this rating, and it’s been sound, if unexciting stuff, but this looked old and jaded, dull browning gold and thin head. Nose is lightly malty with some sweetness on the palate, finish is very short...had worse, will try a fresher bottle ( this is dated 24/10/05) and see if that is any better. Firebrand is an own label lager(there is also a bottle conditioned beer brewed by Hop Back Brewery, Salisbury) of the Thresher Group who own Thresher, Victoria Wine, Haddows, etc. As there are only two Firebrand beers, they cant have done much in the way of searching the "best brewing regions of the world" as they say in the comm. desc. Oh! they did spell Saaz as "Saatz" it wasn’t my careless spelling!
