2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 shakespeare33 (197) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 22, 2009
12 oz bottle. pours a subtle amber with a quickly dissipating head, the smell is of a citrus and floral aroma with a slight spice that permeates above the glass. Initial hit to the palate, is subpar, quick hints of citrus but a piney, maltiness quickly superceeds the taste and Im left with nothing more than a bitter aftertaste. Hops arent quite up to snuff and its just an average ale...

Pretty standard American pale ale. Hoppy aroma and flavor, though not overwhelmingly so. They go down pretty easily.

This is an average Pale Ale. I thought the water had a funny taste, almost stale. Better than most, but could be more.

Good everyday beer. Malty and a hint of belgium sweetness. Some chalky bitters. Smells like cheap beer. Nice clean and quick taste. Doesn’t linger and I don’t think it should. Wouldn’t turn this down when watching a ball game.

12 oz bottle, deep gold color, small white head that fades quickly, not much aroma, some pale malt and a little fruitiness, tastes pretty smooth with some nice hop bitterness but lacks the aromatic and flavoring hops I expect from a pale ale. Drinkable but pretty forgettable.

Had a big red cup at the brewery after a trip to Ale Smith...boy they are close by. Even though in a plastic cup it had a nice big white head. Great hoppy aroma of pine and spice. The flavor when I drank first sip was terrific. Nice nutty profile with a crisp citrus flavor in the background. I loved the use of the malts. Very complex...not big hop water like many pales this one had dimmension. Could be one of my favs

Bought this for $5.99 for 6 bottles at Vons. Pretty average ale--some hops, but if there were a lot (a.k.a. Alesmith IPA or Green Flash West Coast IPA), it wouldn’t be $5.99 in this day of expensive hops. There’s a hint of sourness in the taste and aroma, but could be more--and the citrus overtones are more like an orange than the more desirable grapefruit. A decent lighter ale for warmer weather, but overall not quite up to San Diego microbrew standards. I give an extra point in the "overall" due to their support of families of firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.

I recently tried this beer as an obligation for living in San Diego and loving beer. The appearance and aroma were above average, but the taste was great. Rarely do I immediatley fall for a Pale Ale without numerous tastes and time, but this got me hooked. This is a good medium bodied Pale with little head and a slightly sweet malt flavor. It goes down full of flavor and finishes crisp.
