3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 GAManiac (1944) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - OCT 30, 2011
22oz bomber from a generous Cali BA.
This is a really gorgeous pour with a clear amber body and a really creamy white head that leaves delicate lacing on the side and shows absurd retention. The head refuses to go away.
Aroma is light citrus with some lemongrass and orange zest. There is also a hint of the spicy rye and some white grapefruit.
Taste is even better with the citrus coming through even stronger, with the grapefruit featuring up front with some floral pine as well. The rye is more prevalent in the finish where there is a spiciness which compliments the sticks hops nicely.
The mouthfeel is very creamy with the rye smoothing out the bitterness a bit.
I’m definitely impressed by this one which is one of the better IPAs I’ve had recently. Love the combination of juicy citrus and spicy rye.

(22oz bottle from BevMo! in San Diego). Pours a clear copper color with a creamy light tan head. Aroma has some juicy, citrusy hops, spice, resin. Taste is semi-sweet with some spice from the rye and a sharp, but pleasing bitterness. Full bodied with a creamy texture. Bitter and dry finish. Nice IPA here.

(22oz bomber thanks to Exiled) copper color with creamy tan head. Nose of funky rye, fresh orange. Taste of orange, almost bright citrus, creamy, and rye. Really fresh and candied citrus tastes. Delicious linger. An awesome IPA. coming from a non-hophead.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hayduke (2926) - Eureka, California, USA - SEP 21, 2011
No commercial description so the ingredients are a mystery. Pours amber with a very robust beige head and lots of lacing. Nose is very resin and citrus, on top of clean malts. Medium body and smooth mouthfeel. The flavor is complex with some rye, and moderate bitterness, but excellent flavor. Long bitter finish. Overall an excellent beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mensch (186) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - AUG 12, 2011
Golden honey color, aroma of pine, grass and a basement kind of earthiness. Heavy spicey hop and rye flavor, hint of shallot, with nice carmel malt backbone. Accent on the hops. Very dry and a little flinty on the finish.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Terminus (2888) - Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA - AUG 11, 2011
bottle-pours lightly hazy bright orange with lots of carbonation and a big fizzy white head with various bubble sizes. nose is wierd-green apples, floral citrus, but mostly green. something is off-hence the green apple notes on the nose. flavors show the green apples as well along with lite alcohol, spritzy citrus, with a ton of carbonation. this beer is way off and doesnt come together very well. long citric finish with some oxidization as well, really not digging this one much.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 SamGamgee (2452) - down the whirlpool, California, USA - AUG 4, 2011
22oz bottle. Slightly hazy darker amber with a nice white head. A little oxidized in the aroma with some honey and dried fruit, but what’s left of the hops is a nice citrus/pine/peach thing going on. Nice malt backbone with an earthy rye spice and moderate sweetness. Strong bitterness in the finish. Good stuff but a little worse for wear. I’d love to have this fresh.

22 oz. bottle from BevMo (SD) - Pours a hazy amber color with a one finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Aroma is esters, resin, and pine and citrus hops. Flavor is hops, caramel malt and light rye. Both hops and malt show up in the finish. Medium body. A pretty good beer.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 greenhorn1 (664) - Mission Viejo, California, USA - JUN 10, 2011
22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy amber, big head, thick lacing. Aroma of pine, flowers and hint of citrus. Flavor is similiar, but the rye adds a subtle spicy note that rounds out the hops. This is not your typical citrus bomb IPA, it’s more floral and perfumey. Decent IPA.
