4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 dpatchen (12) - - OCT 15, 2012
This is a beautifully balanced, heavy-duty IS. I’d never heard of it and took a gamble at BevMo and wow, was I pleasantly surprised. It’s got a strong malty, coffee and vague dark chocolatey flavor. One of my favorites up there with Old Viscosity, Green Flash Double Stout and Oskar Blues Ten Fidy.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 SDalkoholic (1767) - Chula Vista, California, USA - SEP 22, 2012
Bottle from BevMo: Poured a dark black used motor oil color with a topping of tanned colored foam head. Aroma is full of roasted black malts that hint towards coffee bean and dark chocolate. The flavor is rich and robust with a deep profile of dark chocolate along with a combination of roasted coffee bean that comes together well making this a heavy and note worthy impy stout. Finish has a suggestion of milk/lactose that leaves behind a sticky and sweet resin around my lips.

Pours a black colour with a foamy beigeish head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, grains and some sweetish notes. Flavour of roasted malts, salty licorice, dark chocolate, coffee and sweetish English toffee. Full bodied, oily and dry mouthfeel and a long, salty licorice finish with strong roastiness. Really good and smooth.

22 oz. bottle from BevMo (Mission Valley, SD) - Pours a dark brown color with a one and a half finger thick tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, and light molasses. Flavor is pretty much the same. Finish is fairly dry, light bitterness, and smooth. Medium to full body. This beer was a little better than I expected. A good, easy drinking IS.

Deep black color with tan sheen. Nice dry chocolate, leather, licorice, deep roast, ashy aromas. Smooth medium body. Dry chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate flavors with ash tray, rich dark coffee, deep roast malt-nice bittersweet finish--a sugared up shot of espresso.
