Taste: Medium roast, licorice, fig, raisin, caramel. Finishes with dark chocolate and roasty spice.

Perfectly blended stout. Looooong finish and smooth aroma. I don’t know how I’ve never tried this

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BMan1113VR (6530) - Los Angeles, California, USA - MAY 2, 2012
Bottle. Pours with a viscous, inky black hued body with a largish brown head that lasts a while. Decent lace. Aromas seem bitter, brown sugar, very bitter bakers chocolate, dark fruits, baked bread, coffee, decently hoppy, leather, biscuity, medium roast, pretty dry. Flavors are bitter, earthy, medium smokey, nutty, dark fruit, chocolate, dry, a bit ashy. A bit like Real Ale XV. Raisins, leathery, coffee, nice complex breadiness with a good deal of hops left over. Forest floor and fall leaves. Bakers chocolate. Pretty well put together. Very light smokiness. Just a bit too bitter for my taste in imperial stout. Neutral if not a bit bitter in overall balance with a definite lingering bitterness.
Viscous, big, medium carbonation, some warming, kind of on the dry side.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 ngeunit1 (823) - Mountain View, California, USA - FEB 28, 2012
A - Pours a deep thick black-brown with a finger of frothy chocolate colored head atop. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some thick lace.
S - Aroma is full of deep roasted chocolate and bitter dark chocolate with some coffee , a touch of milk chocolate sweetness, a bit of earthiness, and some light alcohol.
T - Starts off with a mix of big roasted chocolate malts with some coffee and licorice and just a touch of dark fruit sweetness. Through the middle, more rich dark and milk chocolate flavors come through with a touch of earthiness. The finish is a mix of more dark chocolate and bitter coffee flavor with just a bit of alcohol coming though. Chocolate lingers on the tongue for a while.
M - Full bodied with mild carbonation. Fairly thick and almost syrupy but very smooth with a lingering warming and roasted chocolate finish.
D - Very drinkable. Really nice Imperial Stout. The flavors are very rich and bold and this is a pretty big beer, but everything feels very well balanced from start to end.
3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 HighWine (511) - Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA - DEC 14, 2010
Tap at the brewery. Jet black pour with a foamy head the color of chocolate milk. The head dissipates after a few moments but laces well. Not much aroma, a hint of black licorice and burnt wood. Taste is roasty with a subtle malt sweetness balanced well by hops and then roast. Alcohol warmth creeps in a lingers a little while. While I can detect a number of tastes in this brew, none of them are exceptional. I would have liked a little more malt sweetness to round out the char flavor this posses. Overall a good -- but just good -- beer.

On tap at Rose & Crown. Pours darkest brown with a nicely formed tan head and good lacing. Aroma is very nice: roast, chocolate, and anise dominate. Flavor is somewhat subtle for the style (as opposed to something like Dark Lord) and fairly well-balanced. Roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate, and licorice blend together pretty seamlessly. Medium body for the style with a pretty smooth mouthfeel and not much booziness at all. Drinkable. A very solid imperial stout overall, and I know one when I see one!

Sampled at the Rose and Crown in PA. A really fine Imperial Stout. Pours with a big head on it and jet black. Drinks really smooth and crisp. Lots of malts that are clean and frothy. A really well made brew.

Whooa. licorice. Smoky. Reminds me of Ouzo. Except beer Ouzo. Very good and could be very addictive if your into that. No matter what you think This brewer makes great beer. Clean and complex.

Tap. Served in a snifter, albeit a bit too cold.
Pitch black color with a nice brown head with great lacing. Aromas are dark chocolate and coffee all the way. Same goes for the flavors. Tons of dark bitter chocolate and coffee with some sweetness in the finish. Full body, very nice.
