Bottle. Pours pretty much black with no head and only a slight white or ivory lacing. Chocolate, vanilla, caramel and some whiskey in the nose, although the first thing that comes to mind when I smell it is feet- I swear! . The flavor is immediately hot and bourbon laced. Lots of dark fruits mixed with some chocolate and caramel notes lie beneath. A vanilla oakiness kicks in towards the end. More carbonated than I would have guessed judging by the head (or lack thereof). This is one of those beers that I want to spend some time with and sip on for a while.

Bottle from SJ. This was so damn complex, but so good. Amazing notes of vanilla, dark malts, dark fruits, some dark and rich chocolates, and to make it better, OAK!

The one I was missing; huge thanks to Grant! Tepid brown pour. Lovely oxidized character of sherry and oaken dryness mix with captivating honeycomb, molasses, and creme caramel aspects. Nougat and almond abound as well. Definitely showing its age and a bit past its prime, but still absolutely lovely, and were I by a fireplace in January in New England there wouldn’t be much better.

22 oz bottle shared by ??? at RBWG 2011 alongside other versions, Pours a dark brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor had sweet malts, bourbon, caramel, vanilla, dark fruits, wood, molasses, some alcohol heat, I thought this was tasty, but would like another shot at it because of the palate fatigue.

Traded bottle. Actually carried this to WV for birthday celebration but ended up drinking it at home. This reminds me of a caramely barley wine with some vanilla but it is starting to thin. If you have this, drink it now.

I figured this had aged long enough! I’m not sure what should have showed up or not...but here goes. The blends I thought were perfect. Some below made the comment of Marshmallow flavor. I’d have to agree. It was silky smooth and almost zero alcohol taste or mouthfeel. Zero oxidation and was bottle perfectly. I can see why this beer has received such a high marking!
If you happen to have a bottle, I’d drink it now as the beer might start to change in the other direction.

I’m feeling marshmallow and great age, if it has a taste. Caramel malt with some booze and subtle barrel flavours. Pours dark brown with good head and lacing. Nice barrel in finish, bittersweet taste. Creamy texture. Big thanks to Sammy - it’s more like my birthday than his with a beer like this.

What a blending, elements of a strong ale, an imperial stout, a barleywine. Orange, oak wood, booze. Black with a bubbly head. Bourbon aroma. A smooth drinker. Thanks OCB.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at Richard’s Graduation Party (Western Springs, IL). Thanks, guys! Drank in full 11-16 Vertical. Pours a richer brownish pour, good haziness, a bit dark and some glowing brownish amber edges with tannish head atop, dies to a mellow film, laces ok. Aromas are gentle dark fruit, oak, and mellow whiskey. Some caramel, carmelized malts, and toffee. Some whiskey, vanilla, raisin. Initial is medium bodied, a touch thicker with caramel, gentle oxidation, toffee. Some dark fruit, dried raisins, mellow whiskey and wet oak. Touches of vanilla, caramel, and some gentle whiskey. Middle and backend shows firm barrel, some toast. Whiskey, gentle ABV related heat. Some vanilla, firm toasty and carmelized malts. Lingering purple and dried fruit. Mellow oak, touch of vanilla and butterscotch. Still some firm tannic oak and spirit as we finish, toasty and carmelized. Pretty damn well put together.

Bottle at STL bbbb, thanks for the taste! Pour is brown with minimal tan bubbles. Aroma and flavor loaded with sweet caramel malt, light funk, faint spice, and some oxidation. better than the 10 but still past prime i think. There is just a little tartness in this that im guessing is not intended but is still nice. Glad to have tried this.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours light brown and gets dark as it pools in the glass. The head is super thin and quickly becomes bubbles around the rim. The nose is coconut, vanilla, wood, caramel, molasses and hints of chocolate. The taste is super sweet with a smidge of bitterness in tact. Still delicious. Mouthfeel is soft and creamy. The body is heavy and the finish is long. Still drinking great!
