4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottled. Aged well since this beers release back in 2008 I think. I never rated it upon tasting the first of the two bottles I picked up from the brewery. I had no idea this beast would develop into what it has become... Poured a dark mahogany with an oily appearance; some yeast sediment suspended near the bottom. A light amount of carbonation is still present. After warming in my snifter the aroma is incredible...old leather, charred oak, brandy, molasses, a slight hint of cedar and tobacco. The flavor has mellowed and blended something fierce; amazingly smooth transitions between the sweet brown sugar and raisin notes up front and the smoky oak, bourbon and chocolate tones behind it. Just outstandingly smooth...no harsh character in the profile at all. Palate is perfect; thick and oily and it coats the mouth like butter. The alcohol heat has subsided with aging and has made this a real treat to be savored. With the extra years on it, this is one of my favorite barrel aged blends so far. Its a shame I didn’t buy more...

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle courtesy of Hackobock. Pours tiny hazy deep chestnut brown with a small frothy and bubbly beige head that leaves some sparse spotty trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty, nutty and slightly fruity with caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, raisins in rum, plums in brandy, roasted coconut, brazil nuts, leather, sour cherries and bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and nutty. Mouthfeel is soft, round, velvety, tiny astringent, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with dusty nutty caramel and toffee malts, dark fruits in liquor and woody tannins. Oxidation is prominent and has reached the point where it doesn’t add only ruin the beer. Still, it’s not completely lost on us and is still pretty damn tasty.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
22 oz bottle shared with a friend on New Year’s Eve. Pours a very dark mahogany brown color and topped by a very small head of tan colored foam that settles to a few fine bubbles at the edges. Nice drippy legging class the glass. The aroma is really complex and inviting with notes of dark fruit, chocolate, booze, molasses, toffee, burnt caramel, bourbon, oak, and vanilla. The barrels are all integrated perfectly. The flavor follows is big, rich, malty, and boozy with dark fruit, burnt caramel, toffee, molasses, and bourbon all playing a role. Vanilla laden oak comes through and adds depth and balance to all the malts in play. Nearly full bodied, round and slick on the palate with subtle carbonation that leads to a lengthy sweet and warming finish from the alcohol. Supremely well balanced and perfectly blended between all the barrels. World class barrel aged beer from FW and a real pleasure to try.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle bought in Vegas that we amazingly had the restraint to save until our 12th wedding anniversary. Dark brown pour with a thin brown head and little carbonation as expected. Umami soy and molasses in the aroma with some booze. Big booze in the flavor but then finishes with some milk chocolate and espresso. Big and busy but a nice sipper.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep burnt umber color with a finger of khaki foam. Nose has nice roasted malt, chicory, rye, spicy bourbon, burnt pecan, leather, raisin. Palate follows the complexity of the nose. Lots of burnt sugar on the front, a touch of caramel sweetness falls into a big roasted, charred grain with nuances of leather, spicy bourbon and bittersweet cocoa. Silky mouthfeel, lingering layers of complexity.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Faint malty smell. Taste was general malty that wasn’t anything special. Drinkable, but not good.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
"2+ year old bottle. Holding up well, though you can tell a little bit of the flavor has faded. super-frikkin smooth, though. smells and tastes predominantly like a barreled stout, but FW makes complex barreled brews better than anyone, and this is no exception, though it is dominated by sweetness and a good dose of roast. i have a feeling my score reflects the age, but even then, still elite! Glad I happened to have a special beer for #2700 :) "
