COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As a finished beer, 14 is brimming with amazing flavors and textures. DDBA leads the blend lending American toasted oak, English caramel toffee and light leather nuances. Newcomer, Sticky Monkey, folds in the taste of brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, ginger and ripe figs. Parabola brings the familiar flavors of bitter dark chocolate and cherry pit. Velvet Merkin carries silky bourbon soaked chocolate cake goodness to the party while a touch of Black Xantus teases coffee and tobacco. Last, but not least, Good Foot brings the hops... hints of citrus zest and tangerine, which adds a pop to the aroma and nice finish to this big, sexy brew. 14 is best enjoyed in a half filled brandy snifter or wine glass. Allow it to warm to 55F to fully enjoy the pleasing and complex aromas. If left in a cool dark place, I suspect this beer will age well. It was an absolute pleasure making it and I truly hope you enjoy our fifth oak–aged blend! The journey continues.

Grabbed this in a trade last year. Opened alongside other FW beers. Snifter, fridge temp

A - Pretty dark, oaky, barley wine / stout looking beer. minimal head.

S - Nose has lots of dark fruit, vanilla, figs, red wine, chestnut and birch and maybe even some oak. Slight cardboard

T - Yep, cardboard and strange off flavors but overall, very sweet, still pretty boozy and prunes, grapes and blackberries. Lots of roasted charcoal, licorice chocolate

M - Heavy, slick and tannic

O - This is a solid beer from drinking this along side 17, there’s no comparison.

22 oz bottle aged for three years. Huge thanks to richiesd. Very dark brown color. Small head with no retention. Aroma’s (here we go): dried fruit/raisins, bourbon, vanilla, oak, roasted malts, alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, chocolate, alcoholic, dried fruit. Pretty strong alcohol feel in the throat (warming). Long finish with toffee, some roast and dried fruit. Awesome stuff.

Pours a solid black with a brown head and lacing. The aroma is lots of bourbon, but mellowed from the aging. The flavor has lots of great chocolate and caramel with a solid bourbon backbone and a great finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark brown with a quickly receding tan head. Nose is caramel and dark fruit. Taste is brown sugar, vanilla, caramel, and fruit with a nice bourbon heat.

Draft at Bier Stein, Eugene. Pours a dark brownish black, very little tan head. Seems a little spent aroma-wise, but notes of Bourbon, brandy, stone fruit. Body thick, well-balanced, not hot at all. Pretty nice.

From notes of review 12/17/10. 22oz bottle from Huck’s in Spokane for $20. Poured from bottle to snifter multiple times. A: Pours a tarry black which cannot be penetrated by light of any kind. The loosely packed burnt cream foams fades out quickly and we are left with a ring of lace edging the glass. Nice, sticky lacing down glass. Can agitate a hedging of bubbles with a stern swish of the glass. S: It’s obvious winemakers had a hand in the blending here. Strong, sexy backbone of sweet toasted malts are accentuated by the fine flavors of toffee, caramel, coffee, figs, cocoa beans, and all this is reminiscently embodied by American oak. I strongly suggest letting this one warm to 55-60F, the multiple layers of nose love will continue to bloom. T: Coffee, with strong flavors of cocoa, caramel, fig. A slight taste of candied Bing cherries moves in and and seems to hint at a amaretto influence here. A slight resin still remains from the hops, giving a hint of a bite, which helps to cut the heat from the alcohol that is still present on the palate; time will remedy that issue. M: Lively bubbling as I swish over tongue, the beer converges into a light meringue texture before returning back to it’s thick, sticky base. This is a great feature as it allows for nuances of the nose to come out over palate. D: This was my first Firestone Anniversary, and the beer lives up to the hype. It’s a steal at $20/bottle, if you consider I spent two and a half hours drinking a single bottle. This beer is great for cold weather, cigars, and should not be paired with a meal. You could pair with some salty and/or pungent cheeses, maybe a beef tartar. This beer is something to be had, and will be had by me over the years to come. Serving type: bottle 12-24-2010

Picked up at Belmont station in Portland right after the release. First half of the bottle was awesome. Fumes: wonderfully sweet and thankfully not sickly so like my last bottles of MoaS. No order - orange, caramel, almond, lime, vanilla, slight chocolate, marzipan. Choking flap: same but less fruit and that is replaces with some mellow alcohol bite and a faint bitterness. More caramel, pepper, orange and almond still there, raisiny plum thing. Not unique but better by little nuances everywhere. This is very very good.

Bottle in TN over Thanksgiving. This is definitely a barley wine centric offering. Even with some age the hops come through initially but quickly disappear into some sweet caramel malts and toffee. Beware drinking this too cool because you lose so much of the character. Small, cellar temperature pours into a snifter are the way to go.
