5 year vertical! Dark brown pour, aroma is malty, oak, bourbon, a bit of nuttiness, very nice. Taste is fairly sharp, a bit of rum and bourbon, some slight ash, surprisingly shapper than 17.

Thank you very much for this, Jason! Dark brown, almost black color, with a small beige lacing. Aromas of honeyed malts, coated up by gentle bourbon aromas, both warming and fervent.
Earthy, warm malts form the first impression, which turns sweeter, as coconut flavor along with a huge enjoyable bourbon and rum note become visible on the palate. Alcoholic notes get detectable, as they wash over honeyed malts. Still, the overall balance of this beer remains, due to a complex chocolate defined body, wrapped up in intriguing cocoa and mocha flavors, which get softened on the palate by a fantastic oakiness. Bourbon flavor adds a gentle, stinging complexity to the toffeeish malts of the beer. Subtle coffee bitterness, along with warm alcoholic notes shape the complex aftertaste, completed on the palate by wooden oak. Full bodied beer with a very smooth mouthfeel, fantastic balanced.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 oz. bottle, thanks to Grant! Classic rich chocolate colored pour with plum colored tints. All off the usual suspects in terms of characteristics for this series, with caramel, molasses, ganache, vanilla, marzipan, hints of toasted coconut, boozy bite, touches of butterscotch, almond and nougat, and a drop of fig and raisin. Big, rich, but delightful; I shouldn’t ever drink a bottle of this, but if you told me to sit down and drink one it certainly wouldn’t be a problem. FW’s usual stellar work on display here.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a 0.65l bottle @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. This is a deep park wood brown one, lots of particles and some floaters in the glass and it had a nice small quickly sidesticking beige top. Not to extreme on the nose at first. Light wood sweet, lots of dark caramel, vanilla, nuts and sweetish toffee. Opens more up after gaining some temperature. It has a really gliding mouthfeel with a soft to average carbonation level. Superbly great flavors here. I get lots of wood with sweet glazed dark fruits, traces if prickling alcohol lingering. Bourbon wood and that typical vanilla sweetness finishes this off. Lovely! 04.05.2013

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 28, 2014 22oz. bottle. Strongly alcoholic aroma, featuring notes of woody oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, molasses, cherry, black bread, roasted malts and dark sugars. Deep reddish-black in color with a very fine, slight head. Flavor profile is sweet and sugary with plenty of peppery alcoholic heat and dark chocolate character, lightly tannic oak, dark caramel and spicy hop bitterness in the background, finishing long, rich and warming. Viscous, sticky and lightly syrupy on the palate with a hugely full body, feels every bit 13%. Indulgent.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled @ Zeebra #2. Sampled 5cl. The aroma is a bit weak, but putting the nose a bit more in and over the glass results in tones of raisin, grape, wine, bourbon, different fruits. Brown coloured beer with a very thin head. The taste is quite on the bourbon side, has sherry and a rather dry finish. Quite thin. It is nice to taste such a ridiculous blend, but it remains just that; a ridiculous blend. No balance, too thin. Bit a waste of all these ingredients, barrels, effort, etc. But to end positive, the aroma is quite nice. :-)

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Good, very much so, but I feel there’s almost too much going on here to keep track of. Heavy barrel presence, with tequila especially evident and some oak and bourbon. Pours brown with red tint and decent head and lacing. I liked this year’s a little better than this one. It does get better as it goes down. Tap at Meridian Pint.
