It’s not a unique idea, but one that everyone on the Central Coast understands… Call something “805” and it means local. As a regional craft brewer we have always known that the closer the beer is to where it was brewed, the fresher it is. In fact since 1996 our brewery has been built on fresh, local beers for the Central Coast…. so we created a beer just for our locals in the “805”.

Hope you like it… FW

Pours a clear hay color with white foamy 2 finger head. Aroma of straw, caramel, yeast. Very sweet front, fruity apple and slight bitterness towards the end with a hint of citrus.

Bottle pour. Clear golden with a medium white head and lots of carbonation. Bread, wheat, and light malt aroma. Light somewhat oily body. Bread, raisin, light malts, and a slight hop finish.

January 17th, 2013 - A Firestone Walker beer that doesn’t jive with my taste buds?! Weird, but true, and too bad, too. The 805 is all over Central California, and I’d guess Northern California too, and it’s always nice to have a beer in mind that you like and can get almost anywhere. It’s an emergency poncho for drinking. When your friends go into the sad, drizzling rain that is a bad liquor-based dive bar, you want something sudsy you can lean on. But I’m not sure the 805 is it. The flavor is like a basic amber brew, and a bit fruiter, but like a discordant chord it’s strange, and hard to get used to. Each sip is mildly alarming, and I can never quite solve the mystery of why.

Bottle bought in Long Beach, August 2014. Golden with a medium white head. Light and fairly refreshing with hay, bread, hops and some fruit. Nothing special but a drinkable one.

Bomber in my hotel room in Santa Barbara.

As a pretty fair Firestone Walker fan, this is another one I’ve wanted to try for a while. This summer I’ve been really enjoying the pale ales and lighter, so I came with relatively high hopes. But frankly, I’m a bit disappointed here. Pours golden with a reasonable white head. Bready aroma, rather sweet, hint of hop presence. The flavor is also on the sweet side, again that bread, pretty mild on the hops. Amply carbonated, just a touch oily. On the positive side, it’s clean, it’s quaffable, and its without any apparent flaws.

But in the end, for a brewer this good to name a beer this unremarkable after their own area code seems a backhanded comment on the beer-wasteland between LA and San Francisco, akin to the term "americano" that US coffee drinkers still fail to realize is a direct dis.

tl;dr summary: see previous paragraph.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is doughy, grainy, floral. Pours hazy golden with a medium white head that falls after a minute into a ring of big-bubbly foam. Taste is crisp, simple, refreshing, dry. Highly carbonated, medium body. Definitely the most simple beer I’ve ever had from this brewery. Tastes good and well-made, though; definitely a lawnmower beer.

Gold with a white head. Nose is honey, sweet, malty, and crisp. Easy palate, sweet, honey, bready malts, floral finish.
