COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
american wild red ale

As the name implies, this is a rustic red ale. Agrestic has a long lineage of oak-barrel influence: First, as DBA, it is fermented in our legendary Union Barrel Fermentation system. If that isn’t exciting enough, it is then transferred to a tank and inoculated with a proprietary lactobacillus-thus beginning the Agrestic transformation. Then, it is racked into barrels where it is inoculated with Brettanomyces Lambicus. This foundation of DBA with microflora is made more complex through 14 months of maturation in American and French Oak barrels (40%/60% ratio). The result is a remarkable blend of rustic flavors and textures: barrel-derived tannins, woody, nutty(toasted almonds) malt nuances, dried tart cherry fruit, thirst quenching acidity, and a hint of vanilla and all-spice in the background. A thoroughly enjoyable beverage! Draft only, extremely limited

Appearance: Pours an amber brown with a white ring of head.

Aroma: Sweet tart candy, bready malt, grandmas house.

Taste: Bready malt ,tartness. Vinegar.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied modest bubbles.

Overall: I’m not the biggest DBA fan, this is slightly more interesting, but not one of my favorite sours they’ve been piloting.

On tap at Brouwers Sour Fest. Pours a cloudy reddish Amber color with a medium white head that leaves good lacing. Smells of cherries, sour, funk, and spices. Tastes of the same things in the smell. Mouthfeel is thin and oily but chewy with good carbonation and a dry finish. Had to try this. Pretty good I like their barrel aged sours. Complex and tasty.

At whole foods on draft. Pours bronze with almost no head. Aroma is medium acidity, okie, hint is old plumbs, not bad at all for a random firestone walker beer.

On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours dark copper amber with very thin white head that fades quickly. Aroma is dry, fruity sweet, oaky malt with light berry tartness on the back. Taste is sweet sticky caramel malt with big rich fruity sour finish. Notes of cherry and pear stand out, lesser notes of dry oak, leather, and dark tannins. I know sours aren’t Bear Republic’s specialty, but this is impressive. More of these please!

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. This is a blurry deep amber almost a little brown looking one with a small but lacing off-white head. On the nose it has caramel, lots of cocoa and a Cola Mr freeze sweetness, mild wood and something slightly vinegar like. Really mild vinegar but it’s there. More acidity in the taste really. Thin oily in the mouth and it doesn’t have to much bubbles at all. Slightly tart berries, some wood, malt vinegar thinned down. Fruity red berries in the finish and aftertaste. Yea, I kinda liked this. 03.05.2014

Draft at Good Dog during a FW event. Hazy deep amber pour with a frothy beige head. Wildflower honey. Red beets. Slight Brett. Strong vinous quality. Some citrus sparkle. Body is medium light, though there is a ghostly heaviness to it. Does not feel like either a Red Ale or a Wild Ale. Bright outside flavors with a remarkably blunt middle.
