magine yourself in Berlin’s Tiergarten enjoying this refreshing Berliner Weisse inspired beer on a warm summer’s day. Bretta Weisse honors the traditional beverage of the great Prussian capital, Berlin. Fredrick-the-Great was trained to brew it, and Napoleon’s troops called it “The champagne of the North”. Firm estery notes of stone and tropical fruit lead to Funky, yeasty, citrus aromas. Soft cereal and Oak flavors are enveloped by a firm acidity and tartness. The finish is dry and crisp; a thoroughly enjoyable beverage. At 4.9% ABV, one could imagine enjoying several Bretta Weisse’s in the Tiergarten, or anywhere else. This Berliner Weisse inspired Wheat beer was aged in 1700 gal French Oak horizontal foeders for 8 months.

Bottle thanks to Bruce. It pours cloudy gold with a medium white head. The nose is earthy, brett, barnyard, light manure, lemon meringue, sherbet and mild sweetness. The taste is crisp, tart, sherbet, lemon, lime peel, kiwi, lactic and minerals with a dry, sherbet finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. Smooth, sherbety and crushable! Pretty scoooopable stuff.

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Bruce. Pours lightly hazy yellow-gold with a creamy white head. Nice aroma with pleasant lemony tartness, hay, wheat bread. Light-medium sweet, pretty well balanced, some citric tartness, peach, lemon, strawberry. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Very clean and well balanced on the finish, nice citrusy tartness, some berry accents. Lovely stuff.

Hazy transparent gold, white head dies within seconds, extremely effervescent. Peachy acetic nose has tons of plastic-heavy grains, lotion peach-skin with buteric hints, paper. Green apple flavor front palate, oily acids dominate fizzy body, light rice is washed out, so slick and thin that acids highlight, no grain balance, lactic levels far too low, hot.

Pour is pale golden yellow with a small amount of white head. Nose is heavy leather brett, lactic notes, tons of green apple, oily hops. Taste is off like the nose, the green apple is completely out of place, the body is syrupy and slick, lactic acid is low, not delicate or to style.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2014 Glowing hazy straw, bone white head, good lace. Nose is subtle funk, hay, orange zest, lemon. Flavor is same plus oak, faint tart yogurt. Lean, focused and achieves a complexity that goes above and beyond a Berliner without compromising adherence to style guidelines. Perfect example of the style.

Bottle (500 ml). From Marcus, thanks! Hazy golden with a small bubbly white head and little lacing. Aroma is soft and lactic with a nice acidity and lemony notes. Taste is also soft (a little less than aroma) with cheesy pesence, nice acidity, lemony notes and fruity/floral notes. Light body. Soft carbonation. Moderately dry finish. Short lasting yogurt aftertaste. Good light sour. Quite tasty despite being soft and low abv. Super quaffable.

Bottle at Tom?s. Hazy gold pour with white head. Aroma is grainy, really lactic, sour grain, light light lemony notes, leather. Taste is tart, lemon, light graininess, long lactic finish, plain yogurt. Palate is really light, watery.
