magine yourself in Berlinís Tiergarten enjoying this refreshing Berliner Weisse inspired beer on a warm summerís day. Bretta Weisse honors the traditional beverage of the great Prussian capital, Berlin. Fredrick-the-Great was trained to brew it, and Napoleonís troops called it ďThe champagne of the NorthĒ. Firm estery notes of stone and tropical fruit lead to Funky, yeasty, citrus aromas. Soft cereal and Oak flavors are enveloped by a firm acidity and tartness. The finish is dry and crisp; a thoroughly enjoyable beverage. At 4.9% ABV, one could imagine enjoying several Bretta Weisseís in the Tiergarten, or anywhere else. This Berliner Weisse inspired Wheat beer was aged in 1700 gal French Oak horizontal foeders for 8 months.

GABF 2014. Aroma has oak and mild sourness; but there is not the flavors so often associated with barrel aging, like vanilla. Light wheat flavor; mild sour finish. Iím not sure about the name but I didnít pick up any brett; maybe some lacto.

Tap at SB. Pours a cloudy bright medium amber with a loose white head. Bright lemony nose with grassy background and a bit of wet hay. Creamy medium body with lively carb--kind of heavy for a berliner, but in a pleasant way. Lemons, grass, and hay on the mid palate, with a little bit of tangy, mushroom-y funk on the mid palate. Crisp light finish.
