magine yourself in Berlin’s Tiergarten enjoying this refreshing Berliner Weisse inspired beer on a warm summer’s day. Bretta Weisse honors the traditional beverage of the great Prussian capital, Berlin. Fredrick-the-Great was trained to brew it, and Napoleon’s troops called it “The champagne of the North”. Firm estery notes of stone and tropical fruit lead to Funky, yeasty, citrus aromas. Soft cereal and Oak flavors are enveloped by a firm acidity and tartness. The finish is dry and crisp; a thoroughly enjoyable beverage. At 4.9% ABV, one could imagine enjoying several Bretta Weisse’s in the Tiergarten, or anywhere else. This Berliner Weisse inspired Wheat beer was aged in 1700 gal French Oak horizontal foeders for 8 months.

Draft at Bottleworks. Listed as "Barrelworks Bretta Weisse" so I’m not sure if this beer changes recipes slightly as others noticed it called something else at the tap room. Pours a clear, light golden with big white head. Aroma is lemon peel, mild to slight funk, slight dairy overtones. Taste is a very mild lactic sour with load of ripe lemon peel, lemon and slight, ok little to no, funk. The sourness is dry and something that makes this a very easy to drink berliner. As of now, this would be my summer berliner or choice going forward. Please start growler fills of this ASAP.

(Critique chaotique du extreme beer fest 2013): Barrelworks wild weisse: Très en douceur avec une légère acidité, fini avec une sécheresse moelleuse. Buvabilité titanesque.

Pouring at the Saturday sessions of Extreme Beerfest. Pours a very hazy gold with a thin to medium sized white head. Soft and funky. Long tart funk and musk. Big and tart, lovely and bright. Long tartness and crisp finish.

On tap at EBF listed as Barrelworks Wild Weisse 3/16/13. This has got to be the oddest sour I’ve tried. I swear I smelled and tasted ketchup in my sample. I asked my friend and he found it too. I did not enjoy this beer.

Pours a hazy yellow. A bright sour note hits the nose but this is really soft on the palate. Not super sour but you get a touch of the Brett and some citrus followed by the wheat in the finish. Hope to see this in bottles soon.

Poured into a Firestone Walker tulip at Rose & Crown pub in Palo Alto. Pours a hazy bright golden orange with a huge white head. Looks gorgeous in the sunlight. Nose has some acidity, lemons, maybe apricots, light funk, floral. The taste is insanely clean with medium carbonation and full mouth feel for being only 3.4%. Taste of light hay, lemons, earthy brett, wheat and maybe oats. Overall extremely drinkable and refreshing. I had to order two! Awesome job by Firestone, which in my opinion can do no wrong. Incredible berliner style with brett that apparently can take as little as three weeks to make.

On tap at the Barrel Works listed as Barrelworks Wild Weisse. Pours with a hazy yellow hued body with a medium sized white head. Aromas are tart and very lactic, lightly sulfuric, mild esters but mostly clean, a bit grainy. Flavors are lactic, but only medium acidic, medium grain with a hint of a sweet note. Very easy to drink, tart with lively carbonation.

Golden pour with a slight haze and a white head. The nose is incredibly fruity. Notes of peach, lemon, and tropical fruits. A hint of yogurt, straw, grass, and sweet wheat. Nice tartness to the flavor and a good lemon flavor. A bit of yogurt, nice tropical fruit character, straw, grass, and very light bread and wheat sweetness. Nice dry finish to this one.

A very soft, slightly sour brew. Light lemon in both the nose and the taste. This would be lovely on a hot summer day. Very light carbonation.
