magine yourself in Berlin’s Tiergarten enjoying this refreshing Berliner Weisse inspired beer on a warm summer’s day. Bretta Weisse honors the traditional beverage of the great Prussian capital, Berlin. Fredrick-the-Great was trained to brew it, and Napoleon’s troops called it “The champagne of the North”. Firm estery notes of stone and tropical fruit lead to Funky, yeasty, citrus aromas. Soft cereal and Oak flavors are enveloped by a firm acidity and tartness. The finish is dry and crisp; a thoroughly enjoyable beverage. At 4.5% ABV, one could imagine enjoying several Bretta Weisse’s in the Tiergarten, or anywhere else. This Berliner Weisse inspired Wheat beer was aged in 1700 gal French Oak horizontal foeders for 8 months.

Sample at the Tehachapi Beer & Wine Festival on 07/18/2015: Hazy yellow-gold color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of tart fruit, wheat and malt. Light body with a vinous and citric character and notes of herbal wheat and malt. The finish is moderately tart with an oaky and lemony aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Sample at Standard Market. Light smell with digressions of cherry juice concentrate. Dark gold in glass, just a bit of fizz around the edges. Taste is pretty malty at first, but then offers some light sourness that’s more like a Belgian Petrus than a sprtzy Berliner. Cherry nose becomes a bit more pronounced while I’m drinking. While the foeder ferment no doubt added to the funk here, wood aging has mellowed it, too.

It pours a deep golden orange color with an off white head. The aroma is nice with some lactic peaches. Very bright and pleasantly acidic with a little funk. The flavor is lactic and lemony with some peaches and a touch of white vinegar. Touches of oak add complexity that makes this more of a "sour’ rather than a Berliner

A pale, mildly hazed golden body crowned by a short white head falling to a solid ring

Juicy tropical dirty funk, solid tartness rounding into melon and a creamy finish, juice is concentrated and prominent bringing life to the sweaty dirty funk, fruit cocktail, all on a smooth, initially lean and clean light plus body with active carbonation leading to creamy texture and finishing with a bit more lemon than previously shown, tart lemon meringue residual

On tap at Flying Saucer KC

On tap at Bottleworks, pours a clear pale golden yellow with a small white head. Nose brings very funky bretty notes, with a little citrus and wheat. Flavour is quite dry, funky and tart, with notes of barnyard funk, lots of citrus and dry wheat. Bone dry, with good incorporation of the brett. Probably wouldn’t recognize this as a Berliner if I wasn’t told. Great stuff.
