3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
I poured this ale from the bottle into my trusty Samuel Adams glass, producing a clear, dark amber body topped by a quickly diminishing head of foam with light lacing. A pleasant floral aroma with notes of vanilla and bread was present. Mouthfeel is moderate to light, with a dry, crisp finish. This ale has a decent balance, bittersweet, ending with a crispness. This ale drinks quickly, and would go well some nice smoky barbecue.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A far superior beer to their 805, this is a nice pale ale that has a really smooth finish and not overly hoppy. Pleasant aroma that poured with a very light head that disappeared almost immediately. Poured from 22 oz bottle. Would buy again.

Reviewed On: (7-31-14):
*Glassware: Nonic Pint
*Serving: 12 oz
*Aroma: wood chips, caramel, toffee, lightly roasted barley malt, hint of vanilla
*Appearance: Deep amber color with three fingers of lightly tanned head. The head slowly receded to a one finger head. Lots of thick creamy layers of lacing, covered the glass from top to bottom after the beer was consumed.
*Taste: Biscuity/bready upfront, caramel malt sweetness in the middle, and finishes with a floral/spicy mild hop bitterness, to go with a hint of vanilla at the end, probably due to the oak barrels it was held in.
*Palate: Light to medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel, fizzy carbonation on the tongue. Finishes clean and dry.
*Overall: An excellent example of the ESB, done right buy the guys at Firestone Walker. If you are looking to get into the world of craft beer, this is a great beer to start with. Hop heads rip on this beer because it is not hoppy like an APA. Excellent session beer, reasonably priced.
