4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
22oz bottle, poured into my FW snifter. sits a deep, clear amber in the glass capped by a whispy, bright white head that leaves sticky rings of lace. aroma is absolutely wonderful with huge notes of toffee pralines, butterscotch candies, vanilla cake, and raisin spice oatmeal backed by pine esters, toasted oak, and subtle notes of berries as it warms. flavor is delicious as well with heavy notes of toasted oak, bourbon, caramel syrup, and toffee backed by candied pineapple, dried apricots, and vanilla extract. palate is full bodied and feels dense in the mouth with light carbonation and a lingering, dry, bitter, and boozy finish. overall, another excellent barrel aged effort from FW.

Good, but quite boozy. Deep copper pour. Toffee and caramel aroma, which carries through to the taste, along with a hint of vanilla and a slight bourbon flavor endemic of barrel aging. This is a sipper; what lingers is alcohol burn. Would probably benefit from aging, but even moreso would benefit from kicking down the ABV from 12% to 8-9%.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Poured into my Figueroa Mountain pint glass for a bit of poetic irony. The beer pours a mildly hazy copper-amber with a light taupe head. The head gives off an orange hue. The head, like all FW brews, subsides nearly immediately. Vibrant notes of coconut, honey, caramel, and bourbon comprise the aroma. The mouthfeel is so soft, creamy, and full that it takes on a life of its own. There’s just enough scrubbiness on the top to balance. The mouthfeel is so complimentary to the gestalt of the beer. The flavor, while easily describable, does not lend itself to words for adequate appraisal of how good it really is. A flawlessly engineered combination of bourbon oak, caramel, and honey causes one to be thankful to have had the good fortune to experience it. It finishes with the most perfectly smooth coconut and butter, and, finally, just a hint of alcohol warmth. This may be the best beer I’ve ever had.

Thanks to Carter (I think) for sharing this one. Pours murky amber with a light ring of a beige head. The aroma has rich malt, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, toffee, warm alcohol and overall rich and fullness to everything. Medium / full lush rich body with gentle soft carbonation. The flavor starts with brown sugar, huge sweet malt, rich toffee and warming alcohol. The finish has a bit of pepper, lots of toffee and a bit of oak. Nice beer. Even with it being on the sweet side I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Serving: 22 oz. bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a hazy copper color with a dense off white head. The nose is slightly piney with lots of butterscotch and toffee notes. The flavor is surprisingly well balanced between the thick, sweet malt with notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak and the hops. Just enough bitterness to help balance things out with a warming but not hot alcoholic finish. A full bodied brew with a good bit of soft carbonation. Excellent brew.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Another variation on the standard FW profile (not that this is a bad thing). You’ll find this one to be very full flavored, lots of malt and citrus hops. Fairly bitter. Found the mouthfeel too sticky and too much caramel in the flavor, prefer its big brother Union Jack but who has $8 for a 6-pack?

Bottle shared at Hunaphu Day. Mahogany pour with a small white head. Sweet nutty, toffee, butterscotch, vanilla and caramel. Sweet caramel and toffee up front with vanilla, coconut, oak, burnt toast, brown sugar and molasses. Heavy, warm sweet body and booziness.
