3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap: Dingy copper center with translucent, burnt amber edges; a gray-beige, thin film rests on top for a while. Aroma of smooth, oaky coconut, light maple syrup, sticky sweet toffee & caramel, tons of malt sugars, & a light lacing of booziness that flows in & out, adding a good bit of layering to the already complex aroma. Smells like a barrel aged barley wine, almost. Taste is that way, too. Caramel candies coated with a smooth bourbon & dark raisin reduction. Toffee, woody coconut, hints of more dark fruit. Lingering sweet vanilla, oak, & caramel in the finish; a lasting warmth from the booze balanced by a nice, malty sweetness. I’m not a huge fan of the original DBA, but this is a whole other monster. Very nice beer.

Pours a dark chocolate black color with a nice tan head. Aroma is sweet malts, coffee, cherries, and caramel. The taste is heavy wood, cherry syrup, sticky sweet malts, light coffee, 100% amazing. One of the best beers I’ve had in a long time.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Brown with an off white head. Nose is pure cocoa and vanilla, Oak all around. On the tongue there is very subtle carbonation. Very very creamy. Cocoa also on the tongue, slight subtle heat but very complex. Another fantastic barrel aged beer from this brewery!

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour is dark copper with a small amount of tan head. Nose is heavy bourbon, light oxidation, brown sugar, faint dried caramel. Full, luscious body, fairly smooth and creamy with just a bit of grittiness. Flavors are sweet with strong bourbon up front, a hint of paper, lots of malt sugar with brown sugar and caramel flavors. Moderately strong carbonation and a dry finish that brings a hint of booziness and a lingering spice to it.

Pours a nice ruby color. Smells of oak and toasted coconut. Taste is similar: oak, coconut, and vanilla. Very flavorful without being to sweet. Awesome beer

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2yr old bottle. Pours copper color with a sticky foam that dissipates. The aroma is rich of oak and booze. It has a buttery carmel scent too. In the flavor there is a nice booziness, soft bourbon, mild bitterness, spices, and a defined sweetness from the malts. There is a possible sugar sweetner added to this beverage. Overall the finish is a nice blending of ingredients with an intensity of sweetness and dryness. It was not too bitter, malty, or boozy. I’d have this again.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
2012 Glowing muddy red-amber pour. Nose is huge oak, caramel/toffee, bourbon. Flavor is initially mild dates/prunes/raisin, followed by strong earthy oak, chewy caramel/toffee, faint herbaceous hops, fading into vanilla/bourbon heat. Oily texture, fine carbo, pleasant warming. You know you’re talking about a great brewery when this is their second best barleywine...
