DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

2013 vintage 22oz bottle, poured into a snifter. Warm apple pie and cinnamon aromas emanate from the beer - in fact, itís quite reminiscent of a fall spice blend / candle. Secondary aromas include, citrus, molasses, caramel, oak, and a light licorice. Itís a murky bronze color with a thin, white soap head that only retains a very thin ring and has a light runny lace that doesnít stick. Itís highly sweet with a medium high bitterness. Itís syrupy and smooth, with a bit a stickiness as well. The carbonation is a smooth fizziness which lends to the thick texture. The full bodied beer has flavors of sweet bourbon caramel, port wine notes, apple pie, wood, cooked molasses, toffee, and light licorice. It finishes crisp with a spice cleanliness, a mellow alcohol warmth, and toffee, vanilla, and bread crust flavors which turn into an aftertaste that has a mellow burnt wood and caramel quality, but very clean for a barleywine, and dangerously drinkable for a 15% abv.

Bottle share at Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is a heavenly blend of bourbon, vanilla, caramel candies, natural fruit syrup. Taste is punchy bourbon... very rich and thick caramel notes with figs, vanilla. Some oak too. Very complex and rich... but even half a bottle was a bit much. Couldíve sniffed this stuff all night though. Amazing aroma.

Beer is great. Love the heavy malt flavor. Don't taste the toffee. But can't believe it is this good.

on tap at library ale house, like the little brother of the sucaba, lighter in color, similarly rich but less intense in flavor, similar genre of flavors as the sucaba, but also a fresher seeming experience than the sucaba

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of nice caramelized malt with nice toffee notes and light residual sugar notes. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt with some toffee notes, light biscuit notes and just the right amount of residual sugar. Body is about average with good carbonation and light warming alcohol. This beer is super well-balanced with just the right amount of complexity and great drinkability.
