COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

From a shared bottle at RBNG-14. Pours deep amber with an off-white head. Strange, sweet aroma of caramel, spices and vanilla. To sweet and not quite my style but certainly decent.

A layer of tiny blond bubbles, over hazy dark gold to amber colored body. Strong sweet-scented carmamel/toffee aroma. A whiff of alcohol and some fine fruity hop tones. Full body, juicy mouthfeel. Big, sweet refined caramelly malt body. Whisky tones. Firm fruity and earthy bitterness. Long throut-warming ending. Tasty and potent. [Shared bottle at Grand Tasting, RBNG2014]

Bottle sample @ RBNG-14. Clear amber body with a small off-white head. Nose is huge caramel notes, red fruits, grains, hints of licorice and toffee. Taste is caramel, syrup, pine, grains, hints of red fruits and toffee. Full body, soft carbonation. Pretty nice barley wine, but not as fantastic as a lot of the other "big guns" from Firestone Walker.

Bomber purchased 18 months ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($15.99). Pours a very murky ruddy-muddy red-brown with one finger of beige foam. AROMA of rich toffee and sticky caramel, dark bourbon, vanilla, pipe tobacco, and some candied dark fruit. FLAVOR of significant sweeti-ish bourbon, dark toffee, wet oak, vanilla, creamy caramel, molasses, and sticky stone fruit. Finishes somewhat sweet but still far from cloying. Some bourbon-y booziness, but overall the very high ABV is disguised somewhat well. The bourbon makes this especially nice. Yet another excellent BA effort from the FW folks! (399, 842)
