COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

Bottle split with JF, 20/04/13, from an IP trade with George. Lightly hazed dark amber with a thin beige film of a head. Nose is dark caramel, vanilla, brown sugars, almonds, dark fruit, waft of booze. Taste comprises Dark toffee, light chocolate, booze, marsh mallows, brown sugars, syrup & figs, toasted malt, butterscotch popcorn. Full bodied, dine carbonation, boozey finish. A more than decent barley wine!

From Dawson’s Restaurant on draft at the Hyatt Regency in Sacramento, CA. This came in the 16 oz glass a dark murky brown with a small tan head and light lacing. Nose of rich malts and treacle. Medium plus in body and with a smooth clean mouthfeel. Flavor is very rich with lots of roasted malts and some fruit and vanilla. Very tasty and nice to drink.

Bottle at a tasting in Stockholm, April 2013. (thanks Johan) Dark amber with a medium head. Aroma of toffee, some vanilla, malt and some dried fruit. The taste was sweet with vanilla, toffee, malt, fruit, pine and notes of oak. Thick body with a smooth mouthfeel. A very nice beer.

@ Norman: stor bärig doft. Fantastisk len smak med stora toner vanilj och toffee. Lång söt eftersmak. Mycket god. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a deep, warm shade of amber. Small, light beige head, which dissipates to nothing. Filtered. The aroma is dominated by rich caramel and toffee malt flavors. There’s some apricot, coconut, sugar cane, almonds and cotton candy. The taste is sweet and luxurious. It’s pretty much a delicious barleywine with light barrel notes. I’m mostly getting vanilla and a light woodiness from the barrel-aging. There’s some fairly subtle bourbon in the background, but it meshes into the other notes quite nicely. Some booze in the aroma, but it mostly just warms up the palate once you take a sip. The mouthfeel is smooth and thick, but it never got cloying for me. This is one of the best barrel-aged beers that I’ve had from FW, probably my second favorite after Sticky Monkey (? - one of the barleywines that was used in a recent FW anniversary beer). It does a particularly good job of showing FW’s light touch with barrel-aging. Great stuff.

Bottle from Dice. This poured dark brown and is clear despite dark pieces of sediment being suspended. A nice light tan head. Lots of malts in the aroma. Toffee is nice and rich. First sip tells me this is a very sweet beer. It is also smooth in the mouth. This beer has huge toffee and light fruit. It is not overly complex but is very solid. Some oak is tasted with a bit of vanilla behind it.

FROTHINGSLOSH (4763) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 5, 2013
From the April 2013 3R6P beer tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-amber color with a small soapy beige head that faded and left no lacing. The aroma was wood, whiskey, nut and vanilla. The flavor was wood, bourbon, caramel, coconut, light sweet fruity hops and vanilla. Long caramel and bourbon finish. Moderately full bodied. Nice.

ksurkin (1021) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - APR 5, 2013
22oz bottle, poured into my FW snifter. sits a deep, clear amber in the glass capped by a whispy, bright white head that leaves sticky rings of lace. aroma is absolutely wonderful with huge notes of toffee pralines, butterscotch candies, vanilla cake, and raisin spice oatmeal backed by pine esters, toasted oak, and subtle notes of berries as it warms. flavor is delicious as well with heavy notes of toasted oak, bourbon, caramel syrup, and toffee backed by candied pineapple, dried apricots, and vanilla extract. palate is full bodied and feels dense in the mouth with light carbonation and a lingering, dry, bitter, and boozy finish. overall, another excellent barrel aged effort from FW.

Good, but quite boozy. Deep copper pour. Toffee and caramel aroma, which carries through to the taste, along with a hint of vanilla and a slight bourbon flavor endemic of barrel aging. This is a sipper; what lingers is alcohol burn. Would probably benefit from aging, but even moreso would benefit from kicking down the ABV from 12% to 8-9%. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
