3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Light brown pour, insignificant head, sweet malt and carmel aroma with hints of dried fruit. Taste is balance of malt, but not really sweet, and hop bitterness, which is also not overdone. Some barrel and dried fruit flavors in there, but they are not pronounced, and there is nothing very complex or very interesting to me in this. The alcohol is pretty strong in this, and somehow it doesn’t work for me. This is decent but it’s not compelling, especially for the price, and I would expect more from barrel aging. This might age well if it could get some focus or complexity, but I suspect it will just get drier and less interesting over time. Not one I need to try again.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, thanks to Kevin at G&G for saving me one. Pours a muddy, ruddy orange-red, fairly still and with just a wisp of head. The aroma reminds me of a Kentucky distillery. This drinks quite smoothly, the alcohol and oaken woodiness delivering a slow, pleasant burn on the palate. Rich with caramel and toffee, this is a great evening sipper. (#5204, 8/18/2013)

3.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Strong sweet and boozy coconut aroma; amber appearance with a foamy off-white head; sweet, malty, alcohol taste; fizzy on the palate, smooth down the throat, with a sweet aftertaste; overall, what would be a fantastic beer is spoiled by my personal dislike of sweet malty taste

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
From a bomber into a snifter. Series 001, 2012. Pours a pretty light brown. Little to no head and lacing. Aroma is sweet coconutty and boozy. Mouthfeel is pretty med-thin and sticky. Taste is pretty much like the aroma but with some wood paint licorice and rubbing alcohol. This sucker would have to sit another couple years to mellow out. Too bad, I really like the DBA.

Draught @ Firestone Walker Barrelworks, Buellton, CA
Pours clear amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, vanilla, oak, alcohol, hint of dried fruits. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long warm, oak, vanilla, caramel and dried fruity finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Firestone Walker Barrelworks. A clear amber colored beer with a small, off-white head. The aroma has lots of dark dried fruits, some faint spiced notes, alcohol notes and peach hints. Full bodied, soft and a bit too warming on the palate. Lasting flavor with alcohol, loads of wonderful dark dried fruits, a hint of vanilla and a little sweetness. Some bitterness too it seems. Yet another wonderful one. 130809
