COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

Pours dark amber into glass. Quick fading creamy head that leaves a nice white ring around edge of glass. Aroma is strong caramel and toffee with hints of oak, spice and malt. Taste is same with warm booze finish. Creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. I salute firestone walker for this one. Bravo!

Bottle from a trade on the West Coast. Poured into snifter at home. Deep amber red with small head that lasted 20 seconds. Amazing aroma of oak barrel, caramel, toffee, spices and fresh leather. Taste lives up to the aroma with heavy malts, oak barrel, caramel, toffee, spices and hint of vanilla and nuts. Medium to full body, light carbonation, almost a creamy mouth feel. Oak barrel on the finish. I must come clean though. I fucked up and left the bottle in the freezer for 5 hours after wanting to do a quick chill. I think it lost some carbonation. But the flavor was still amazing.

Bottle. Deep chestnut brown pour with a tiny white head. Just a touch hazy in appearance. The nose recalls caramel-dipped bruised red apples. Some rich cocoa, decadent toffee. Mild boozy wood. The taste is a bit less assertive. Mellow raisin paste. Hints of vanilla. Spicy toasted grain. Warm toffee dessert. Dry, slightly hot finish. Full body. Just a touch oily. Overall, quite satisfying. I can’t think of a single beer that I don’t like by Firestone Walker. Their offerings are as consistent as they are delicious.

Bottle batch 002 poured a light red amber color with a thin cap of off white head. Aroma initially had a lot of anise that burned right off leaving sweet bourbon soaked barrels, English malt, perfume like hops, and caramel. Mouth feel is medium and the coating nice with lower side carbonation. Flavor centers on the barrel treatment, vanilla, bourbon soaked oak, English malt, and again some aged hops kicking through. There is certainly some warming and quite a bit of sweetness into the finish. More a showcase of their great barrel aging and blending skills than anything else.

2013 bottle. No head, pours deep amber. The aroma on this is caramel, toffee, vanilla, sweet bourbon, and some some nice oak notes. The taste follows suit with butterscotch, some nice bitterness and heat from the 12%. The palate is rich, creamy, with moderate carbonation and a perfect slow warming feeling that lingers. Overall this is excellent. FSW knows barrels and blending better than anyone.

Delicious barley wine. Sweet, tastes of caramel, toffee, and vanilla. Alcohol is strong but doesn't overpower the beer. Sticky mouthfeel. Overall a great barley wine but I don't know if I could drink more than one in a sitting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 22 oz bottle shared at Ryan’s. Pours a clear amber with an off white head. Caramel nose. Flavors of caramel, vanilla and butterscotch. Medium heavy bodied. Smooth sweet finish.

Poured from a bomber into tulip glass. Golden brown appearance with minimal head. Aroma is dominated by bourbon. Taste is more promising. Initial strong hits of bourbon, but the beer began to reveal itself as it warmed up. Some nice barleywine notes here that would work even without the barrel. The bourbon adds a lot and has the typical FW deft touch. It's highly present, but also supple and gentle. The skill involved in this beer is definitely on display. That being said, it still felt like it was missing something. It had the barleywine character, and the bourbon, but lacked something to bridge them together. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear orange coloured with a small off-white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of caramel, dried fruits, hops and vanilla. Sweet and fruity flavour of hops, vanilla and dried fruits. Sweet and hoppy finish.
