DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

[Courtesy of and thanks to Kraddel][650 ml. bottle][Consumed close to half] Gorgeous packaging. Pours a dark pomegranate copper amber that just screams barleywine. Almost clear beer with only bubbles for a head, beige bubbles. Smells heavily of sherry, good side of oxidation, oily pine nuts and walnuts, thick caramel, lots and lots of sherry with brown sugar sweetness. Taste is slightly metallic upfront followed by sherry, brown sugar and caramel sweet but nowhere near as sweet as quite a few beers of these style tend to be – which is how I prefer them honestly – & good oxidation reigns supreme here, lots of oily nuts, one again pine nut oil, dried old berries, faint dates, warming and mildly boozy. Not as thick as I had hopped and this feels a bit thinned out. Honestly, I had very high hopes for this one coming down from Abacus and Sucaba and it is not like it is the most common of beer here or anything but this was nowhere near as rich and decadent as I prefer my barleywines. This felt more tame than balanced with a kind of thinness and almost metallic character to it. Not bad but a definite downer for me.

Vintage bottle pours a dark mahogany with a tan head. Even with some age on it you get a big burly boozy nose with a beautiful oak aroma. Vanilla, leather, cocoa, and sugary toffee. Really nice rich body with soft carbonation. This was a sipper for sure and I enjoyed it throughly.

Excellent go-to beer. Must have it in fridge at all times. Low ABV but holds a bold flavor for an ale with guts. Firestone got this one right.

Bottle, 2013 vintage. Light brown pour, minimal tan head. Aroma, so nice, caramel, oak, sweet malts, vanilla and on and on. Taste, rich caramel, sweet malts, toffee, brown sugar all mixed together very effortlessly, sweet malty finish. Great stuff.

A very sweet, rich, dense, barleywine - not usually my favorite style, but this one is much better than most. Tons of caramel, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, and oak, all rolled together. They pull it off brilliantly - a great sipping beer.

This is such an incredible beer. The aroma and flavors are like a caramel candy. Sweet, but with enough of a slight bitterness to balance it out. We paired it with a giant pretzel dipped in salted caramel and it was heavenly. This is definitely on my all time faves list. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
