3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle poured into glass. Can’t remember who brought this bottle, but thank you! By this point of the night my palate was starting to get shot, but I tried my hardest to maintain. The hops still lingered but weren’t up your face, there was more malt presence then anything. I good beer but nothing super special.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours murky amber with a thin white head. Aroma is big sweet caramel and toasted marshmallows. Flavor is rich caramel, brown sugar, some woody notes, enough hops to keep it from becoming to sweet, with some boozy notes.

Unique beer. Pours an amber brown color with light white head. Aroma is heavy malts and berry sweetness with nice barrel character. Taste is fruity and spicy with well hidden alcohol and a nice lightly sweet finish.

On tap at Brouwer’s Big Wood 2012. Pours a cloudy, ruby orange - really pretty. A lighter barley wine. Malt-forward, with a decent hop balance. Definitely an amped-up pale, and a bit hot, at that. Give it a year or so, and it’ll be on par with Mirror Mirror.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20

Smell of good ol bourbon, taste is overwhelming. The barrel age takes the stage, is it a barleywine or scoth ale? I’d rate it as an awesome scotchale. Might be wrong but tasty as hell.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Boxed bomber received as a gift late this summer. Deep muddy ruby color with moderate foamy cream-colored head. Aroma and flavor very similar, basically a malt bomb with loads of caramel and toffee dominating. Being a double, the finish is a bit rough as expected, smacking of booze and a bit sharp on the tongue. A really good barleywine, almost enough to convert me on the style!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle, 2012 batch 1, bottled 6/15/12, for like $15-16 at Olive Tree Market in OB back in August. Clear dirty orange with a small creamy beige head that dissipates to a thick ring before long. Plenty of bourbon and dry oak woodiness in the aroma, but with a good sweet caramel backing, as in the regular DBA, though really not all that sweet thanks to the extra wood character. The flavor adds more of the fruity English ale yeast to the beer, but there is still plenty of boozy woody bourbon, and not in the old Angel’s Share type of way, but newer and fresher. Still nice caramel notes, but still not too sweet, by any means. Definite booze burn, but I still wouldn’t put this at 12%. Dry, bitterness peaked at a 2, not quite a 3. Low to moderate carbonation with a full body. Pretty tasty, though not mega complex--you gotta like bourbon to enjoy this one, and I do. For whatever reason, I think this is a solid 4.0, just dunno where I would add any points. . .
