COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
DDBA is our flagship beer brewed at double strength. It is amazingly similar in many respects to our barrel fermented DBA and possesses everything we love about that beer times two. English caramel malts lend rich toffee character that pairs well with assertive medium toast American oak barrels.

Had a bottle a couple months back that was a hot mess. This was not only served cooler but the flavor and alcohol had come together much more. Dark cloudy amber. Toffee and bourbon with sweet malt finish. Very enjoyable.

Bottle from a trade with cbkschubert. 2012 vintage. Pours cloudy dark caramel color with light tan head. Aromas of toffee, molasses, toasted malts, oak and some alcohol. Sweet molasses flavor with toasted malts, oak, dark fruits and oak. Quite boozy. Full body with moderate carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. Thanks Craig.

Smooth and not too syrupy for a Barley wine. Some wood and booze flavor. Quite a lot of booze flavor actually. Liquor like. Serving: Tap

Very sweet & malty aroma, with little depth. Pours a hazy amber with a thin head that quickly dissipates. The taste is overpoweringly sweet, with a token dash of bitterness, and not much else. Very boozy though. Overly syrupy pallate. Overall, a pretty simplistic brew, not much of interest.

Wittales (649) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - OCT 9, 2012
Appearance was orangish honey amber with creamy flat tiny diminsihing off white head, spotty lace. Aromas are brown sugar, molassas, sherry, oak, toffee with slight alcohol present. Taste are bourbon, oak, sherry, sugars of caramel, honey, toffee, molassas and no hops present. Palate was soft creamy CO2 with full body, then the malty sweet alcoholic finish. A smooth barley and could age for years...

Bottle. Copper pour with a short, ring of tan foam around the edge of the glass. Aroma is vanilla, caramel, tropical fruit, coconut, booze, and sweet malt. Taste is strong toasted coconut, vanilla, oak, sweet malt, rum cake, tropical fruit, booze and soft hops. Body is medium-full with a mild carbonation and a syrupy, thick feel. Soft alcohol warmth as well. Finishes with more toasted coconut, vanilla, oak, chewy malt, caramel, candied fruit, booze, sponge cake, and soft hops.

22 oz bottle. Murky brown with a splotchy head. Nose is caramel, strawberry jam and brandy soaked pears. Chewy with a fermented tang and a hot bite. Taste is butterscotch, bitter grass and scotch. I sometimes have a problem with these imperialized brews but this is pretty good. A barleywine? Maybe an English strong.

Bottled 6-14-2012.

A: The body is a hazy mahogany with no head at all, just a very thin ring on the outside, it looks great though for what it is.

S: The nice is very heavy on the barrels with oak and coconut being rather prominent, toffee and caramel underlie it with a slight fruitiness hidden beneath it all. The aroma leans sweet and is very complex, very enticing.

T: Caramel and toffee play well up-front with a sweet intro with a well-balanced yet prominent oak mid-taste with hints of vanilla and some fruity dark fruit flavors coming through.

M: Thick with a light fizz that accents the beer great.

O: Should I even be surprised at how great this is? Firestone Walker is perhaps the best barrel aging brewery there is. This is oak prominent without being overpowering, allowing the base beer to shine through.

Massively intense aromas of wood, oak, barley, oats, alcohol and rye. Cloudy shade of brownish copper with a small foam top. Very complex and sweet flavors including oats, wheat, caramel, vanilla, mango, rye and alcohol. Full bodied and astoundingly complex. Overall, this is a fantastically complex brew boasting intense and sweet flavors. Big booze on the finish. I’d give this an A+ rating.
